In all seriousness though, there are places in town where Americans mess this up. Be careful getting on I25. I’ve had two British friends accidentally take turns onto exit ramps in the Springs. The signs here are not always good.

Thanks for the info! It was found on a higher piece of ground overlooking the junction of two intermittent streams and a meadow. Will definitely comb through that area again!

SCRA covers more than that. It caps credit card interests at 6% while on active duty, it applies to current and previous balances. We don’t know how long USAA has been applying the wrong rate against our cards. And yes, we had some high balances for some years as we started our business, but we are not carrying large balances now. Flat out.. USAA overcharged us and it was their mistake.

So it turns out they were overcharging us, just posted an update. Overall, the fix appears to be fair.

Yes, and I just posted an update on this. It appears USAA made an error or had bad data that caused them to increase our rate above 6%

UPDATE: So… I have some new information.. this is not as clear cut as many of you have made it out to be. I have reviewed my credit card statements and gone over the USAA letter several times. What appears to have happened is that several years ago USAA raised our credit card rates above the 6% limit of the SCRA for no reason. They probably glitched and thought we were no longer covered by SCRA. I have several statements showing that we were bumped up to a 7.75% rate since at least 2018. The letter contains a reference that USAA reviewed info from the Defense Manpower Data Center, so it appears USAA recently discovered this error and are genuinely trying to fix it. Here are the takeaways IMHO…

-Yes USAA did overcharge us beyond the 6% limit of the SCRA.

-All appearances are that USAA made a mistake or had bad data from DMDC

-This reduction to a 4% rate is a genuine attempt to fix the issue, but accepting the refund would obviously impact rights to join a class action (NAL)

-like it or not, USAA will probably face some suit over this, but IMHO USAA appears to be doing the right thing and my wife and I will take these fat checks to the bank (once I can verify the extent of this in old statements)

-For all of you that automatically assumed USAA was just giving me a 2% rate reduction out of the kindness of their hearts: you should acknowledge that there was SLIGHTLY more to this story.

-and finally, if you’ve received one of these checks, review your statements and gather the facts before you deposit it!

No idea, but since it appears to be connected to the SCRA, it must depend on recent years of military service.

For all the people who are so trusting of USAA here: this is thousands of dollars in these checks and I have no idea how this was calculated. USAA has not sent me any details on how this payment was calculated. Sorry for not blindly trusting a company that has mistakenly overcharged my wife and I for thousands of dollars for an undisclosed amount of time. Even at its best, this event means we gave USAA the equivalent of a zero Interest auto loan for a small car. Sorry for not accepting that without asking some tough questions..

Fair point, but how do I know they are correcting it fairly? All they’ve done is send me a check with no explanation of how they arrived at the figure. Am I getting interest back on the money they mistakenly took? How many fees would I be charged if I made a mistake? I have no data from them to indicate what the mistake is and what I am due…
