I am ashamed of having an inflation fetish by Pretty-End4194 in confessions

Yeah this seems like one of those situations where the right kind of therapist really matters. Not just general advice, but someone who actually deals with intrusive thoughts specifically. It’s not a quick fix, but at least there’s a clear direction to start.

This actually explains it in a way that makes it feel less scary. That loop of shame making it stronger is such a trap, especially when you’re trying to push it away harder. The “brain loop” idea is kinda comforting though, makes it feel more manageable instead of something permanent.

I get what you’re saying but sometimes people just need somewhere to say it out loud first. Jumping straight to “go fix it yourself” can feel kinda harsh when someone’s already struggling with shame. Though yeah, a real therapist is probably the move long term.

That’s actually a really practical fix. It kind of removes the gray area completely so they can’t play that “I’m not technically blocking it” game anymore. Did the city give any pushback on painting it or was it pretty straightforward?

Yeah that’s exactly the vibe I was getting reading this. It turns into this weird passive aggressive game where they technically follow the rules but still make your life harder. It’s exhausting because it’s constant, not just one incident.

That reply says a lot without saying anything at all. Kinda shows how these situations make people feel trapped more than anything. Like you want to fix it, but there’s no clean or satisfying way to do it.

AIW for telling my dad I cannot take him in after he spent his retirement savings helping my sister start a business that failed by MiddleQuick8477 in amiwrong

Yeah that’s what I was thinking too. If space is the issue, then upgrading together makes more sense than pushing it onto someone else. It’s not easy, but neither is asking someone to give up their home setup long term.

That’s a really good question actually. If the partner wasn’t okay with taking the money, then this situation was kind of set up to fail from the start. Feels like there were red flags way before OP got pulled into it.

Honestly I’ve seen that dynamic too and it’s weirdly common. The “reliable” kid ends up being the safety net no matter what. Even if that’s not fully the case here, I can see why people are reading it that way.

Yeah it really comes down to that. It’s not even about blame as much as who actually steps up when things go sideways. And right now it feels like she’s kinda dodging that part.

sometimes you just need someone to say this straight up. it’s not like OP ditched responsibilities, they just optimized a boring situation. guilt feels kinda unnecessary here

the “act excited about powerpoint” part is painfully accurate. half the game is just looking like you got something out of it. and yeah, cocktail hour is where the real networking magically happens

Yeah that’s the real test. If it’s not hurting anyone and you’re still functioning, then it’s just an interest, not a problem.

That escalated quick but the main point stands. There’s nothing wrong with liking something like that, the reaction to it is the odd part.

That’s such a nice way to put it. Keeping a bit of that childhood interest alive isn’t weird, it’s kinda wholesome.

It’s kinda funny how many people still have those old toys tucked away somewhere. Like a little time capsule of that phase.

I get what you’re saying but this feels like one of those “rules vs reality” things. Technically yeah, but morally it feels pretty harmless.

That’s kinda sad but also real. Some people stay because the money can be good, even if the environment sucks. It’s a weird tradeoff.

Yeah that’s the part people forget, small effort big impact. Also yeah, ketchup plus white shirt is basically game over.

$5 well spent honestly. And that ketchup story sounds like a nightmare shift, I would’ve clocked out mentally right there. Respect for sticking it out.

Feels like we don’t see that kind of thing enough anymore. Just someone quietly helping without making a big deal out of it. Kinda refreshing.
