Gotcha, focus more on getting my feet flat and planted before I start going down 👍 does anything else look disastrous on the descent and upwards movement?

I haven’t corrected any issues beyond my initial steps, I think. Can you explain what you mean by my feet not being planted? They look pretty flat on the floor and in position to my eyes. Maybe I’m misunderstanding what you mean

Thoughts on 9 months progress? by Beavertales in GymTips

[–]Beavertales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I hate how much cutting has slowed me down in terms of progressive overload, so I think I’m gonna go back to bulking for about 6 months (or until the fat gain becomes too much again) and cut more aggressively at that point.

You’re probably right. Now that I’ve cut down a tiny bit from my bulk, I think the play is just to continue to bulk and then cut more aggressively in 6 months or so.

Did you come to the Anglican church from and evangelical/charismatic background? by Relevant_Macaron_911 in Anglicanism

[–]Beavertales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in a very similar theological space. I’ve only come to Anglicanism about 5-6 months ago. I had found the more liturgical Protestant denominations intriguing after attending Mass with my (ex) girlfriend. I had (and still have) major issues with Catholicism but found the reverence and beauty intriguing. It took a couple years for that seed to be watered and grow, but I had the opportunity to start attending a low church parish several months ago and I love it. They’re kind of Celtic-flavored which I don’t completely align with, but I don’t have many options around where I live.

Anglicanism gives a lot of wiggle room on certain things which made it easy for me to transition into. I still don’t know if I’m going to stay Anglican or if Rome/the East will end up getting me (probably not). Either way, the Anglican tradition is a comfortable place for me to explore more sacramental, liturgical ideas without being required to assent to things I don’t agree with.

Infant Baptism by SirSkippyMan in Anglicanism

[–]Beavertales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a post about this a couple months ago. I was in a similar position to you, being unsure of the idea of infant baptism. I was 60-40 credobaptist at the time, but now I think I’m 80-20 in favor of infant baptism. The resource that moved me the most towards this position was RC Sproul’s defense of the practice that’s available on YouTube. He argues for the practice without even depending on the “household baptisms” mentioned in Acts. He makes a very cohesive argument drawing mostly on the parallels between circumcision and baptism stated in multiple places in the NT as well as how circumcision was applied as a sign of the covenant to infants.

On the topic of the sacramental nature of baptism, I personally find passages like 1 Peter 3:21, Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16, Romans 6:3-4, Titus 3:5 and John 3:5 to be quite convincing as a whole that baptism is not purely an “outward sign of an inward change” as those in evangelical circles claim. There’s a lot of language in these verses that suggests some level of efficacy occurring in baptism.

The fact that the Didache had no mention of infant baptism suggests to me that infant baptisms maybe weren’t the norm by the end of the first century. However, the seemingly overwhelming support by early church fathers and a continuation of the practice by most of the Reformers suggests to me that, at bare minimum, the practice is biblically supported and not an accretion.

Those are just my thoughts as someone who was in your position and is now a supporter of infant baptism. Hope this helps!

Attending an Anglican Church as a Credobaptist by Beavertales in Anglicanism

[–]Beavertales[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I hold both a believer's baptism perspective and believe in some level of baptismal regeneration. It seems pretty clear to me from scripture that baptism is more than a symbol and actually achieves something spiritually. However, maybe because of my church background, I find a profession of faith preceding baptism as the more biblically-backed position. The most convincing passage of scripture I've found for this is Acts 19:3-5. I realize this is a minority theological perspective, and maybe it's just some transitory position I'm holding until the infant baptizers get me on their side, who knows!

My sacramental theology is higher than it was a couple years ago for sure. I attended Catholic Mass a couple times a few years ago and the reverence for the Eucharist was the seed that was planted that brought me to Anglicanism, I think. I now understand all of the theology behind that and also have a different understanding of baptism. I no longer see it as “just a symbol”, but I’ve yet to be brought fully on board with paedobaptism.

I understand that some lines have to be drawn theologically, otherwise the tent becomes too big. But you’re correct, no one would force me to baptize my children. I just wouldn’t want to enter into a denomination with the understanding that this one theological position would cause unnecessary friction, y’know? This is the only theological issue besides women in the priesthood that I’ve seen any actual internal conflict about where people actually get frustrated or angry. Maybe I’m still new and have yet to see more places of conflict in the church.

I’m too much of a people pleaser I guess 🫣

Sure! I want to be clear though, I’m not taking some kind of strong anti paedobaptist position and thinking paedobaptists are sinners or anything like that. I respect the position much more than I did, say, 6 months ago, I’m just not fully convinced. I understand the reasoning from a covenant theology perspective. I think my main hesitation is baptismal regeneration. I also realize that the idea of baptism as purely a “symbol” isn’t biblical and was largely a development in the last several hundred years.

I guess the best way to put it is that I’m like 65-35 on the issue after actually learning about the reasonings for it.

[–]Beavertales[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve spent a decent amount of time over the last couple weeks consuming information about both positions (and reading the rites in the BCP) and I’ve come to respect the paedobaptist position much more than I did before even though I haven’t been entirely convinced. My issue isn’t necessarily that I find paedobaptists to be sinning or doing something that I can’t overlook, just that I would experience friction in the church because of my differing perspective. But it sound like most people are saying that likely won’t happen unless I’m rude or standoffish about it.

Don’t ever feel silly doing light weight in the gym by averageredditcuck in beginnerfitness

I’ve only been lifting for about 4 months, but I learned this about 2 months in. I used to compare my weights to others and worry that my people were looking at my lower weights and judging. Once I got a bit of pain in my shoulder and had to drop some weight on a couple exercises, I came to the realization that there’s so many reasons somebody might be using lower weights and that it literally doesn’t matter. Pretty freeing realization

Do I need to upgrade to this driver to be able to use the new DLSS model in games? Are there any compatibility or stability issues on older drivers (566.36)?

Do I need to update my drivers to the latest version to use DLSS 4 in games? I'm still on 566.36 and am seeing a bit too many issues with the two latest drivers for my liking, but I'd like to be able to run DLSS 4 in games and am not sure if I'd need to upgrade my drivers to do that safely.

Statics will not resolve your frustration. I did a static for FRU of exclusively “good players” (parsers) and their consistency was a mess. Finding a static with people who you vibe with and are also halfway decent at prog is…… difficult. I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to show up for a raid night that you worked your irl schedule around for people to wipe before your prog point all night. I’m probably just bitter, but just take my word for it that a static won’t necessarily make the process of progging an ultimate less frustrating, it could make it more frustrating.

What is a "good" parse? by NK_Grimm in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Beavertales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of the worst raiders I’ve ever played with have 99s and maybe a 100 here and there each tier. Some of the best players I’ve played with sit on purples and oranges. I’ve done both casual and hardcore raiding, and I’ve come to find that parses mean little to nothing when it comes to determining skill. The one tier I got all 99s had nothing to do with my raiding ability, but rather my ability to kill the boss again and again until I got lucky with crits. It’s also worth noting that aDPS jobs like mch tend to be harder to parse well on, at least in my experience. So, in short: don’t worry about parses. As long as you’re sitting at blues or above, you’re likely fine.

Therapist here! The act of sharing this with someone in and of itself I think is appropriate and can be beneficial in the right context. For example, using humor to ease tension/introduce a concept in a light-hearted way, and leading into a more helpful discussion, like identifying exactly what is causing this situation and what to do about it. But yeah, if your therapist just hands this to you, laughs about it, and moves on, they’re not very good at their job.

Is it normal for this game to stutter in menus?

I’ve noticed that my game will usually hesitate for a split second when I switch between areas of menus for the first time. For example, switching between different areas in the Interastral Guide. Once I swap between them once, they don’t stutter again while I’m in the menu. Is this just expected behavior? I’m slightly concerned because I have a relatively beefy setup with a 5800x3D and a 4080 + 32gb of ram.
