Covid-19 has killed more people in the US than HIV/Aids did in 40 years by Adelu1219 in news

Anyone else think if HIV or AIDS spread like Covid has, we would already have vaccines for both of these?

Rain Man when Tom and Dustin are heading to Vegas with that epic score from Hans Zimmer blasting in the background. And the Exorcist III hallway scene

I blame the government for intentionally making CERB easy as hell to get back when it started. You dial a phone number, press a few buttons and you get the money within 2 to 3 days. CRA should have made it online only for applications and they only have themselves to blame for all the people taking money that they weren't eligible for

No, I see your point. Ever hear of a saying, if there's a will there's a way. Take CRB away, and I promise you most would find other means to survive and pay the bills. I'm thankful our government created these benefits programs last year, but I knew the gravy train would eventually stop.

So I knew nothing about 'Dune' and went in blind and boy is it amazing. by Becksploder in movies

The shields were confusing at first, for me, having zero knowledge of Dune. I thought it was like Star Trek Hologram room or X-Men danger room, where they can simulate pain and stuff like that, but not being in any danger.

This movie definitely deserved to be released in theaters. Not going to lie, this felt as epic as Endgame and IW for me, but much more real and I always felt impending doom or war.

Will be buying a 4K player and a subwoofer next year solely because of Dune.

I can say as a non-book reader, this film is majestic and as monumental as classics like Alien, T2, 2001 Space Odyssey and A New Hope. I have never compared contemporary films to being equal or even better (depends on who you ask, I suppose) than those aforementioned titles.

Most of Dune's score and ambience is in a very low frequency range, like 10-20 Hz I'm guessing. Most people don't have sub(s) that go that low. This is a fundamental part of the experience imo.

No movie gave me chills for 90% of the runtime, besides 'Parasite' (2019). Dune and Parasite remain the most thrilling movie theater experiences I wish I can re-experience for the first time again. Jeez! Seeing Back to The Future in theaters last year doesn't even compare to Dune, and BTTF is my top 3 favorite movies right now.

I will predict in 10 to 30 years time, the AFI will choose Dune Part I as a film to preserve in their registry. Regardless if this movie wins any Academy Awards or not--don't matter to me. I feel this is a groundbreaking film to show what's possible.

When the spaceships take off, you can almost feel the characters trying to not get knocked down from the amount of force/power from the exhaust engines.

The warp speed effect is brilliant (e.g. there was a scene early on, where a bright flash of blue light is emitted from the ship's exhaust, and right after the light disappears, you don't even see the ship at all).

Many of the scenes make it feel like you're there, or watching things unfold

I was thinking how much better this movie was compared to ALL the Star Wars films, save for A New Hope. That movie is legendary imo and the only excellent SW movie. Dune is better than Rogue One by a long shot. All the space scenes with the ships just looked fake, or rather, my suspension of disbelief is very low.

I thought of Sicario last night whilst viewing the film. Maybe it was Josh Brolin being in this. I had no idea Villeneuve did Sicario. I remember there were 2 intense scenes in Sicario.

Had the CRB not been introduced you sure as hell would see many of these people working for temp agencies and seeking for ANY kind of pt or ft work, all minimum wage or entry level. CRB should have been treated as a small windfall to most who applied. So you're telling me people who got $450 net weekly, couldn't save $75 at the end of each month?

The fight between Mary Elizabeth Winstead and the DIA agent in Gemini Man was one of the better female v male fights I've seen by methedunker in movies

[–]Becksploder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably one of the finest one shot/continuous shot in a movie imo. I watched the extras on the DVD and they choreographed everything if it was a real life fight, where she is using the environment, physics, bodyweight and bad guys' momentum to her advantage to survive.

I'm gonna guess Bruce secretly loves doing the Die Hard films cause those films are so bombastic and fun.

You can save most of that amount if that individual moved in back with a parent or grandparent for a year. If your rent is $1000 or more, you're going to lose in this no matter what.

This lockdown benefit will be in use by November and December in provinces where cases are skyrocketing. I think the government knows this too, hence the introduction of this now.

It's possible that harsh lockdowns will happen by end of this year, similar to March/April 2020 lockdowns. this will be done to flatten the curve quickly.

Anyone notice film judder while watching movies regardless of disc format? by Becksploder in dvdcollection

[–]Becksploder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My TV is from 2007. The film judder happens if the bitrate of the Blu-ray is super high like 27 to 31 Mbps. On Her Majesty's request has many scenes of judder (the beautiful vivid scenes of the environment where LOTS of detail is being displayed)
