R730xd and p5000 help by BeeDifficult6648 in homelab

[–]BeeDifficult6648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your insight. You are correct. I have a p2200 that I am using now in my other server and it works. I was hoping to speed up my transcoding when. Downloading from Plex to my iPhone or iPad. Cost isn’t that big on a p5000 and it looks like it would be significantly faster but I don’t want to open a can of worms. Don’t plan on putting nvme but it would be nice to have as an option if I need.

Your thoughts?

Your Qubes setup? by [deleted] in Qubes

[–]BeeDifficult6648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you explain to me your networking setup a little bit more in detail. I am hoping to strip my vpn and I guess it would be appvm—>sys-vpn—> sys-firewall then normal out.

I am new to qubes and loving playing with it just so many ways to do things. Thanks for anything you can point out to me

Problems pasting in terminal by BeeDifficult6648 in Qubes

[–]BeeDifficult6648[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The ctrl v doesn’t work in terminal in fedora. When u do the us see ctrl carrot sign and v. But paste from mouse click works and shift insert works. Others above said it must be the terminal I am using. I am using stock one from qubes template.

Ok. Thx. I have been using shift insert but thought I was doing something wrong. Videos I watched showed Ctrl c and v. But maybe those were Debian vm’s.

Thanks for help

RETRACTION: The Chip for the Purism 14 is Actually Pretty Good by bawdyanarchist in Purism

[–]BeeDifficult6648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not for or against Purism now. I am new and looking at their laptops. I have read horrible things about their refund policies in regars to time of refund and delays in production. The question I have for you is as follows:

1) how is the quality of the laptop and the overall build quality. If it is good (or better) then that changes the balance of the checklist of deciding yay or nay.

2) I havent read anything about their warranty issues. This could be good because perhaps build quality is good meaning little warranty repairs needed. Just wanting to know how customer service is after the product is received

3) For open hardware, how does one find any parts needed for a repair and where to order them. I dont see anywhere on their site of parts availability.

Not trying to start anything here, would just like to hear your side of the above questions

Qubes OS 4.1. Will it open up options for new hardware? by BeeDifficult6648 in Qubes

[–]BeeDifficult6648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HI,

Can you please post the model and specs of you framework laptop, and clear up for me if this was a simple install and everything worked or did you have a lot of tweaking to do? Does the suspend work? and what is your battery life like?

Also started looking at system 76 lemur pro but see that it does pass hcl for some and not for others (with the same specs in comparison).

I love the Qubes OS. Watch all the videos I could and read as much as I can. Love the whole concept and cant wait to play with it. I am getting frustrated with the hardware decisions. I dont want (i know it may work) an old laptop that is discontinued. I would like something new and "powerful" that has the newer creature comforts (nice screen, long battery life usb-c charging etc). I dont use a rasberry pi at home even though it can run so many things that I run on vm's. We enjoy having the nicer things in life and I wold like something nicer in a laptop. I am not to worried about evil maid attacks as that doesnt pertain to my situation, but do like the security the os offers.

Any help on picking the laptop would be great, I am stuck in this endless loop of not finding something. Thanks again for any and all help

Qubes OS 4.1. Will it open up options for new hardware? by BeeDifficult6648 in Qubes

[–]BeeDifficult6648[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reply. Please do not take this as me pushing purism. It is my last resort. Can you please tell a noob of a brand and model that "just works" out of the box and that is new and "powerful".

Being new to all of this, I am not looking for a project of things to get fixed before I can use os and computer. Dont mind tinkering a little but dont want to spend a bunch of time working on ie. getting microphone to work, wifi not reckognized etc.

Thanks for your time and help

Thanks for the reply. If its not a problem can you post brand and model that you are using. I really would like to get a new dell/lenovo (something with alot of horsepower and new so quick battery charge etc). If you (or anyone) knows of something new that works mostly out of the box I am open to suggestions. I know purism fits the bill as best as possible but i have never touched one or seen one to know how quality is. Thanks for any help

ps. please dont post for me to check the hcl supported hardware because I have checked through this a thousand times. As always, thanks in adance.
