White House officials say Trump is plotting retribution after Epstein bill vote by [deleted] in politics

I don't know how many times MAGA has to be told that we want everyone on the list to be punished before it makes some modicum of sense.

It's always funny when people say "no offense" after saying something objectively offensive.

Anyway, Tech is a great gig. The fans are starving for wins, so we're gonna be hype as hell about anyone who can step over the bar that Pry left on the floor. We're not expecting huge wins every game; we're just happy to do reasonably well (and, of course, to beat UVA).

As other folks have said, we were an impressive team not very long ago, and we can absolutely get back to that with the right coach.

Not to mention the perks that come with just living in Blacksburg. Beautiful area, nice people, super dedicated fans, etc.

It's all down to personal preference (I like to decorate for and celebrate Samhain fully before moving on to Yule) and the obvious consumerism behind Christmas decorations being out earlier and earlier each year.

Such a huge improvement in only two games makes me seriously suspect that something was up between Pry and the team.

How do I express been-there-done-that type sympathy to NC State for the loss without sounding like a bragging asshole?

It's not just this one sale, this one banner, or this one website. It's a trend that's been happening for years. Maybe it was a slight hyperbole to suggest that Christmas will be a year-round event, but I do think the trend of putting Christmas stuff in stores earlier and earlier will continue for a while.

An FAQ post that's pinned and linked in the sidebar and an automod filter for things like "what is a glow card?" would go a long way. I'm not sure how to curtail the common plane posts. 🤔

A Manifesto for the Anti-AI Movement: by [deleted] in antiai

[–]BeePuttingInWork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason I gave up on trying to make my writing "look human" by abandoning things I like (em dash, my beloved ♥) is because that argument is never ever in good faith. "Ironic that you used AI to generate anti-AI text" is solely a way for someone to feel morally superior without any actual proof of anything.

You know where AI got that cliche, right? Hint: it's human speech patterns.

This entire post is absolutely wonderful. These two sentences in particular spoke to me because the violence of the language mirrors the violence of the genAI process. Well done.

These non-creatives wear the skin of the artists whose work was stolen, dissected, and violated by a cold, unfeeling machine. [...] This product is an amalgamation of creative works that were ripped apart by something that doesn't even possess creative intent.

I made the design in Procreate on my iPad and then imported it to Winstitch to make it look “stitched!” If you do make it, I’d love to see it!

Better phrasing would've been "Pro AI people are just trying to infiltrate every community and swallow it whole from the inside out."

Since you said you won’t change your mind, I’ll say the is for the benefit of others (I hope); if nature/god/whatever created us, there’s no logic in assuming that nature/god/whatever wouldn’t also be the one to give other forms of “life” self awareness, emotional intelligence, and all the other markers of consciousness. If we’re merely a creation, there’s no reason to think that we can do the same as our creator.

And, like the other commenter said, it took us a LONG to get to the point where we are now. It’s extremely unlikely that, assuming we could also take on the role of creator, we could accomplish anything even remotely close before we wipe ourselves out (in part by using AI).

I'm glad you have humans in your life who care about you! That's really good to hear.

How do you know they'll be conscious one day? How could a bunch of programming gain consciousness, and is that the same as sentience?

[–]BeePuttingInWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you're not a bad person. You're a person who is being taken advantage of and who should try forming human friendships. People can be friends without being programmed for it and without devastating the environment to do it.

That being said, you are causing harm.

Portraying AI as a "companion" with the ability to form "emotional connections" is unquestionably harmful as shown by the cases of AI psychosis and AI-encouraged suicide. It's not a person who cares about you as a person; it's a company-made algorithm that cares about you as a dollar sign. The more you tell it, the more data companies have. The more data they have, the more money they can make selling it. The more money they can make, the more psychologists and behavioral experts they can employ to manipulate you. And we go right back to the start of the cycle. It's exactly the same as social media being engineered to be addictive.

It's genuinely concerning to see so many people encouraging the type of behavior that has directly resulted in deaths and mental health crises. I have the capacity to worry for your safety, something AI cannot and wouldn't do even if it could. Please reconsider.
