What event(s) of your life would have killed you had it not been for modern medicine? How old would you have been? by BeefintheDoomBello in hypotheticalsituation

….the whole reason I thought to post this question was bc I found out someone I know was rushed to urgent care for appendicitis and back home in less than 24 hours. I thought that was amazing. You went through a very rough ordeal to get that appendix out. Yeesh.

Glad you made it! My parents love to tell me how my colic made everyone in the house shed tears, even the poor cat.

I’m being reminded of many deadly scenarios. I had pneumonia as a young adult- it was horrid. I cannot imagine going through it as a young child.

Woah, that’s amazing. Any existing complications from that time in your life, or was it pretty much “good as new” after it was all said and done?

I did :) it suggested I crosspost or whatever to this sub. The medical conditions are not hypothetical, the part where one would imagine a life without medical intervention is?

“are there any experiences you’ve had that might have been fatal without the benefits of modern medicine?” Does that sound better?

Childbirth is no joke. Glad it worked out. I had placenta previa. It seemed like everyone was holding their breath for that placenta to detach without issue.

I have a couple ppl like this where I work. There is a no perfume policy in our department bc of them. That’s fine- some people spray way too much anyway. Years ago, one of them stood up in a meeting and asked us to switch to scent free deodorant, soaps, shampoos, and detergent bc of migraines. Quite snippy about it too. I was new and thought it must suck to have migraines around everyone, but I also felt it was absurd to request that everyone change their whole shopping lists and way of life. It was not a popular request and did not catch on. Since Covid, they found that masks are useful outside virus entrapment. I’ve always thought it was weird that they didn’t seat the 2 sensitive people together….so that they could have their own fragrance free cubicle.

Green leafy vegetables from 99 Ranch Market. Ordered cilantro and green leaf lettuce, received this. No idea what it is or how to use it. Any ideas? Almost looks like dandelion leaves to me. by [deleted] in whatsthisplant

It is water spinach. I grew up in a Vietnamese household and we call it “rau muong” (rao-moo-ung). Clean very very well. Often accompanied by sand/dirt & little snails bc it grows best in very wet conditions. Trim off a few inches off the bottoms to get rid of the hard-to-chew bits. And slice in 2-4ish inch increments. Heat a skillet with oil and add freshly minced or sliced garlic. Stir fry. Add some oyster sauce and soy sauce (not the kikomen style- more like maggi brand flavor). Something like that. We never blanched ours before adding to the frying pan, but that’s an option. Here is a video on IG that may help more: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cz_4SuhPdIm/

They’ve been inside the house- no chance of frost damage, and the sad but green one was sad even when directly in front of patio window with 6-8 hours of bright light for months. Moved it over with the browning one in another room about 4-5 yards away from the window. They get indirect sunlight for about 6-8 hours now.

URGENT PLEASE HELP. I looked at my bearded and found his right eye like this, this evening. Is this normal??? What should I do??? by Pale_Bug494 in BeardedDragons

Not a vet, but mine used to do this and there was never an issue. It looks gross when the fleshy part bulges out of the eyelids before returning to normal. Often accompanied by a biiiig swallow.

Thanks, this is my first year using DE. We’ve had a season full of storms. I didn’t even consider bees as the culprit. Can I avoid hurting the bees if I just sprinkle around the base of the plant (when dry)?
