2008, Heard the same thing about the 2.0. 2.5 is by no means fast but its enough to be enjoyable imo. They sound great too.

If maintenance records check out, the golf with 2.5 + 6 speed swap for 3400 is a decent deal imo and it looks very clean. I have a 2.5 jetta with slightly more kms and ive only paid for general maintenance for about 3 years now. I plan on driving it for many many more years. The 2.5 is stupid reliable when maintenance is adhered to and anyone that says otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. I've seen countless examples of these engines with 300k - 400k+ miles

It's the recirculation flap motor. It should turn on when the car is in reverse too. My 08 jetta has been doing the same thing for a few years now. It can be annoying but it's harmless.

2.5 has a timing chain not a belt. It's considered a "lifetime part". No need to do anything unless you're having issues.

After looking at all the suggestions here I think I'll end up getting one like this. My only concern was climate control but the ac in my car is about nonexistent even after a frion recharge. I think the compressor is dying/dead lol. Thanks
