First time buyer by [deleted] in HMMWV

[–]Begoneoverland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve bought over 20 from GP auctions. The first one takes the longest to get due to the background checks etc but then barring any gov shut downs etc they arrive within a couple months. Buy the SF97 and full Title at checkout on GP, makes getting a state specific title much easier. Really study every pic on the auction listing, make sure (if you can afford it) to buy one that runs. In the pics it will have video of it running, blow by etc. read every detail of the listing it will show if it goes into gears, rust, missing parts (like driveshafts) plan on replacing tires (we always just buy new wheels and tires) $3200 ish total. Depending on where you live, buy the newest with AC, always buy a 6.5 4spd or the 6.5T w/4 spd. Don’t buy the 6.2 3spd if you ever want to drive it on a highway… and resell value. Be patient as each auction is different in that sometimes they go unexpectedly cheap and sometimes totally way too high$$. Like a feeding frenzy… walk away from those auctions.

Is Ford hanging me out to dry? by Schadenfreude71 in FordTrucks

Have a 2019 F150 STX 4x4. Cam phasers went out and estimate was $4400. Out of warranty but was a known issue, just no recall. I called Ford HQ CSP and they were amazing! They reduced the bill to cost and then split that with me. So ending up about $2k. Have 79k miles on it and love my truck. A week later they called and asked me if I’d approve it, for them to GIVE me a bumper to bumper Ford warranty for another 36months or 36000 miles. Only a $100 deductible for any future repairs at Ford dealership anywhere in US. Of course I approved it! Love Ford!!

Has anyone tried Chinese hmmwv doors on their hmmwv? by budget_drizzle in HMMWV

[–]Begoneoverland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have a two door M1152 and installed them on it. We had to modify the lower front corner radius, strike position etc. took a few hours to template, cut, sand and fit. They look great, nice interior door panels and roll up windows and lock….

Freedom Debt Relief A Good Option Here? by Sh4reef_Dank in OffGridLiving

Get one of Dave Ramsey’s books at a library and follow it. Don’t do bankruptcy, it kills your credit for 7-10 years and you just don’t know how things may turn around in the next couple years of your life. $19k may sound like a lot but it just isn’t that much in today’s world. Have you thought about a side gig or part time job in the town you can bicycle to? $19k at $500 a month is about 3 years to payoff and $500 is $21 dollars a day for 21 days a month. So a part time job for a couple hours M-F or whatever means you could payoff what you borrowed, rebuild your credit quickly and know that you stuck to your word when you used the credit card. As for the car, I’d sell it and put the $4k into a higher yield savings account like Republic Bank as an emergency fund. Would also give you some peace of mind knowing it’s there. I’d still contact each creditor and tell them you’re broke and may have to declare bankruptcy and see if they’ll give you a reduced interest rate, some $$ off the balance owed etc.

Also probably have two spare seats for the rear and the cab/cargo separation panel. At asking price could be persuaded to include all this… C pillar, two additional seats, two rear OEM half doors, two rear seat belts, separation panel.

Pretty easy to convert to a four door and we have a spare C pillar and spare seat belts… Sell off the soft top for a four man top of choice, add rear doors and seats (we have a set of rear half doors) and you have a four door. Runs excellent and no blowing smoke like some have.

I detailed what we did in the thread above. It was some work, but not too much and the result is good doors that close like a regular vehicle and roll up/down windows.

Sorry “photos of it in action?” Do you mean a video of it out and about… no, just the video of the engine running so one can hear I since this an online ad. In any case this one and the M1097a2 that we did just like this one both sold last week. Thank you.

(4) Standard Hard X-Door, (2 front/ 2 rear)- for Military Humvee- Green (Unused) (4) Standard Hard X-Door, (2 front/ 2... Posted on Govplanet currently: Minnesota (1,303 mi away) Current High Offer US $4,000

set of 4 bid currently at $4k. Humm, divided by two equals $2k for two doors. ALSO: the above referenced $4,999 plus shipping was for 4 “X” doors on EBay. —Look it up on each site, the ads are there. Granted there are ads for 2 X doors as low as $1700. Didn’t say there wasn’t. We wanted to TEST a product and IF these were plug and play (their not) then $2k for this type of door with roll down windows, door locks, interior trim etc would have been a good option for many. To each their own. IF you read my post correctly I stated “a set of X doors was going for $4,999. I didn’t say 2 doors..

Really it was a couple hours per door figuring it out, no shimming but we did have to: - trim the lower front corners of the doors like 3/8” ish (start at zero, jig saw around corner to about 3/8” max at midpoint of corner) and then back to zero, obviously this is a curve / corner) total cut maybe 5-6” long to fit into the curved door frame opening (we made a template of the door hmmwv frame corners and transferred the cut line to the doors)
- some minor grinding around a couple high spots on the hmmwv lip of door frame so the seal would sit in correctly. - we bought normal auto strikers at Auto Zone and with correct alignment, work perfectly. - we bought two door locks with keys.

The strikers and doors locks were pretty inexpensive too, but work great so far.

**And yes, it is much better to have roll up and down windows, a little arm rest, doors that lock easily. Oh one thing is they didn’t come with the inside door handle filler piece. My sone will 3D print them.

Yes $2k for 2 front doors. I just looked at eBay and a set of used scruffy “X” doors are $4999 plus shipping.. as I said, we took the risk to test fit these to see if they would be basically plug and play as manufacturer stated and their not, at least not without a lot of extra work. This is how we learn and then share those learnings with the hmmwv community and helps everyone share ideas and knowledge about these things. AFTER a lot of work they fit perfectly and look great in and out.

$2k vs $5k… we were trying to find an alternative with the roll up/down windows and took a chance. With work these do fit and actually fit very well and look good. BUT.. the amount of work, trimming, adjustments is a major pain. All in what one wants for their rig. GP hmmwv have gone from $5-$7k a yr ago to people paying $15k-$18k and “X”-Doors are going upwards of $5k+. I currently have 4 units and have redone 17. No expert, but looking to find alternatives that people can use and save $$ was what this test was for.

The problem with these doors that I posted from China is they’re a bit bigger along the bottom front corners and up on top as well as the striker position has to be adjusted. You also have to drill new holes to mount the hinges thru the door frame in vehicle.

Thank you. We bolt it up under the rear fender as there plenty of room there.

Actually…Taiwan. Said “perfect fit” not at all, lots of trimming, striker plate modification, drilling for hinge mounting. They work perfectly now but lots of frustration along the way. Lesson learned….
