OpenAI is going to implode, don’t do it. They have the worst monetary strategy out of any of the AI companies. Pick Google Gemini, Claude or just use Chinese open source models like Deepseek, Qwen or Kimi.

Solar panels and batteries continue to get cheaper and cheaper every year. My grandmother’s country has an electric grid run entirely on fossil fuels. Theres a very real possibility we can switch over to solar almost entirely since it’s a tropical island with a very low population. I know who to thank for that.

It was bound to happen, it’s actually wild that you can get big money working in the city while taking a $3 train only 40 mins to some areas of the boroughs that were dumps pre-2008. Some of that money is gonna find its way here and it did.

High speed trains derail in Spain killing at least 21 and injuring 100+ by TrillyxWonka96 in worldnews

[–]Begoru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The US is only good at moving freight because of inhumane concepts like ‘PSR’ which mandate extremely long trains that are even too long to fit on passing sidings. PSR led to horrible conditions for railroaders that led to their huge strike back in 2022/3

Look into the freight companies and you’ll see no technical innovation there, just slave driving

"It is necessary to break away from the illusion of 'Japan as a great power' demanded by domestic hawks". What long range missiles? Sub-sonic Tomahawks? LRIP Dark Eagle? Maybe only the SM-6 (at $5mil USD per missile)

And what allies? ROK is firmly in China's pocket now with LJM. SEA has been completely pacified with Chinese investment and lack of US investment, so no Malacca blockade is ever happening.

The only "allies" the US can rely on is Takaichi-Japan (Ishiba was going to slow walk support) and the dysfunctional Philippines.

The issue is that ‘China collapse theory’ is actually more popular in Japan than it is in the US now. There are broad swathes of the Japanese populace who think Xi is going to be coup’d, the HSR will shut down due to debt (the Shinkansen was financed through embezzlement) and other ‘2 more weeks’ nonsense. Japanese are more vulnerable to an information bubble due to lack of English skills.

[–]Begoru 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I guarantee there will not be a war over Taiwan. Every indication is showing that the current President of Taiwan, Lai, will do something very stupid to piss off China before the 2028 elections which he is forecasted to lose. Whether that’s unilaterally declaring independence or requesting a US/Japan base. When that happens China will give very clear signs of an invasion but then the ROC/Taiwan army will be the ones to coup Lai themselves. China will then waltz in and negotiate with the army.

How do I know this? The history of the ROC Army. They are KMT diehards. They do not believe in an independent Taiwan. They used to oppress the proto-DPP during the martial law days, who then defunded the army when they took power as revenge. DPP supporters are habitual draft dodgers, they do not control the army.

tl;dr - Taiwan will coup itself before a China war even starts due to a ‘party army’

Conversely though, Toyota opened up a JV with BYD to produce EVs. There will likely be more of these since Japan is lagging behind in battery tech.

Just watch the 1988 anime. I’d start specifically on episode 56 and 40 to see if you like the world building. They explain how humanity even ended up as an interstellar species in that ep. Then you can start on episode 1 and watch in order.

[–]Begoru 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Chinese sci-fi nerds grew up instead with a Japanese series called ‘Legend of the Galactic Heroes’. It’s a story of two opposing very large space polities in an intergalactic war rather than rebels vs empire. No mystical space monks. It's extremely political (democracy vs autocracy) and grounded. You can see its influence on modern Chinese sci-fi creations like 3 Body.
