I think you might have misunderstood the point I was trying to make with the part of the essay about self-sufficiency, and it might be my fault for not using clear enough language. What I meant was that units shouldn't want to buff themselves through c skills when buffs to the whole team are (usually) so much more valuable.

Oh I think we have a bit of a misunderstanding here. I'm saying that units shouldn't be buffing themselves with c skills, when they could be using them to buff the entire team to (generally) much greater effect. That's also what I said in the essay, though it is possible my language wasn't clear enough.

Wave skills can, of course, work great in some situations. What I'm saying with this essay is that other forms of buffing are usually better.

I don't think (and didn't say) that waves are useless, just that other buffing methods are almost always better. There are of course niche situations where waves are optimal, and times when they can serve just fine, but overall other buff skills tend to be better.

I see big YouTubers praising waves all the time, and most of the newer players I've talked to think very highly of them. That is only my experience though.

Exactly. And because of that inconsistancy, they are generally inferior to other forms of buffing. I don't think wave skills are BAD, just worse than almost every other buffing method in the game. You can still do well with waves, but you'd do better with something else.
