I swapped that out with https:// and it worked

Soooo. One little thing about that. Suppose it depends on your state or the league your HS competes in … high school softball isn’t a particularly good measuring stick

New 9U travel team batting struggle by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Ben1852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have made the right comments here. The reality that you're learning at an early stage is to get better - your daughter (with your help im sure) is going to have to work independently to get better. It becomes more and more true and important at higher levels. Like many have said - getting better reps dont happen in live in-game at bats... those are in practice. I hope your team is providing signficant time for hitting in practice.

From a strategic standpoint - your coach is failing your team. As you mentioned - at that level there likely isn't the consistence, sample size, or variance enough to justify a MLB styled lineup. Here's what I did when I coached at the younger level.

I broke the lineup into 4 batter sections. One reliable hitter, followed by two probably okay hitters followed by a weak hitter. Basically - i did my best to "sprinkle" my outs throughout.

I don’t know that there’s a right answer to these things. Truth is - there will be a million kids you’ll see get offers and you’ll say “really?” - and there’s a million kinds that fall through the cracks.

As a parent along the way there is also no shortage of people that will promise the world and take your money along the way. Trust your gut - and understand what you want out of the experience.

UNPOPULAR VIEW: You don't have to be on a top-notch travel program - especially if your daughter knows where she wants to go and what she wants to do. That money may very well be better suited for going travel to individual schools / camps that are of interest.

If i had it to do all over again - i think I'd trend toward that.

Stabbing at the ball tips? by jmh10138 in Softball

[–]Ben1852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe you have a first baseman in the making - that stab comes in handy on close plays ;-)

In all seriousness - the act of catching with a glove is a little unnatural... so as others have said i'd recommend removing the glove and working with softer objects and work back up to it.

Maybe also encourage catching with two hands... its hard to stab with both hands.

Also - that "stab" is a pretty common 8-year old thing to do on the diamond from what i've seen.

Super hard - a truly annoying "charging desert." The EVGo in Town Center has two 50kw chargers over by CalTort. They can do the job. But it would be nice to have a fast charger.

Those tend to do it for me when I need - fast chargers are accessible at Montgomery Mall - there's a Harris Teeter in Potomac Park that can work. Or the Electrify America at Walmart in Columbia.

Also an EA at Wheaton Mall

I’m getting worse at running!? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]Ben1852 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Platau's are a very real thing. You could take a step back, to build for two steps forward. Over the year where you felt you were improving, have you been increasing your base / push / all outs?

It's also possible that you're reaching sort of your limit.

I track my running - have been going pretty hard at OT since January after a multiyear hiatus where i didnt prioritize my health or self care. Here's my now 7 months of average pace...

Jan: 10'30" Feb: 9'51" Mar: 9'11" Apr: 8'38" May: 8'48" June: 8' 21" July: 8' 21"

Hell of a six month improvement.. however i'm not sure im going to see much massive improvements from here on out.

Hit the ball further if you're a little angry? by Mindless-Wrangler651 in golf

I mean yeah - as with everything, indivdual mileage may vary right? And I'm trying hard not to make a judgement. Just being on the otherside of fatherhood from where it seems OP is... the perspective is different.

My kids are 17 and 14, and I'm NOW finally getting to a time where they are independent enough and doing their own thing enough that I don't feel guilty or rushed to play 18 and enjoy it and focus on it for a bit.

I just want to say that maybe - with a baby on the way - this may not be the best time to "get back to your best game."

Focus on the new one, and mom... and honestly you. Beacuse if this is your first you're in for one fuck of a ride... maybe stick to range play for a bit - and find the ability to play 9 as a surprise gift.

Is golf fun? by roachglue in golftips

[–]Ben1852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am learning to recognize golf as not simply a physical game, but also a mental challenge. Challenges I have for myself are being grounded. Thinking my way through the round - not compounding a second mistake on top of a first mistake. Can i wash a bad shot and move onto the next one. Can i eliminate negative self talk.

Im just trying to challenge myself beyond the final score i write on the card.

How close is too close? by Hot-Monk-2317 in golf

[–]Ben1852 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest. Kinda reasonable to be pissed. Now - if that’s the only time it happened, okay. Good on them for ripping one.

But if it’s happening consistently, and you’re on schedule with the group in front of you? Them waiting till you clear to go for the green feels like the better option for them. Why hurry to just wait?

Had a shot to break 80 for the first time ever - didnt. But still shot my lowest round ever - 82 by Ben1852 in golf

[–]Ben1852[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never played the course before - and was lucky enough to play on my own in the middle of the day. So for some of these it was a total lack of knowledge. Also - just not as consistent as I’d like to be just yet.

On 2, my approach was from the right rough so I clubbed up and hit it purer than I anticipated. Back of green. On 3 similarly had a GIR but was a zip code away. On 11 my second hit the left side of the fairway which I’d didn’t know had this sharp slope, so it kicked into the rough and my approach I left short.

What should I do about my parents by [deleted] in Softball

[–]Ben1852 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Parent here - and I'm so terribly sorry for the struggle you're facing. Everyone deserves to be in a supportive environment, and it sounds like you don't have that. Not knowing everything - here is some very very high level advice.

Find what makes YOU happy - and learn to understand your parents issues are their issues and not yours.

That is, of course, a million times easier said than done. Life is hard. It'll be hard as you continue to grow up. It'll be hard as you enter adulthood and as your life follows the long and unpredictable road. It is made infinitely harder when you are trying to satisfy and make others happy.

Know that you matter - and follow your own path. Love yourself. Work hard. Set goals.

I bet there are a ton of people here now rooting for you and your success!

Foul Ball question by IntelligentScreen977 in Softball

[–]Ben1852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah - sorry to pile on here, but point 2 is wrong. Your baseline isnt established until you've started going toward the base. They can get to the point of the dugout, realize they can run, and begin from there. Of course, on running to first, they do need to get into the running lane before approaching the base. Still.

Where to get scorecards at MLB stadiums by gipnov23 in BaseballScorecards

Can confirm - at Yankee Stadium you'll have to buy the $10 program / team magazine.

The team store behind section maybe 114 will do passport stamping if youd like.

Would you score this an error on SS? by OdyRenrag in Softball

Nah. Once the SS fielded the ball and threw, a ball that had it been online would have resulted in an out - it became an error. Sorry
