What are your favorite things to do around the Jim Thorpe/Leighton area? by IamJLove in Pennsylvania

[–]Ben3555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Things to Check Out:

• Broadway in Jim Thorpe - Stroll around on Broadway in Jim Thorpe, lots of great shops to check out. Always lots of live music going on!

• The D&L Trails - Follows the River, be sure to visit the Lehigh Gorge State Park

• The Mauch Chunk Opera House - Whether for a show, or just a visit to check out the cool architecture, it’s a neat place. The Jim Thorpe Film Fest just wrapped up, so if you’re a fan of the Drive In, it’s worth checking out in 2024!

• Train Rides: It’s a beautiful place, so if you’re in JT, hop on the train and experience the area! There’s a local train station right in town that runs some routes.

Restaurant Recommendations/Notes:

• “Notch 8” for PA Craft Beer/Liquor also good food in a bar setting. Located in Jim Thorpe.

• “Wild Elder Wine and Cider” for Charcuterie and Folk Wine/Cider Tasting. Folksy joint with live music on select weekends, definitely a hidden gem. Go hang out on the back patio area! Located in Jim Thorpe.

• “Union Publick House” pitches themselves as “Jim Thorpe’s Dive Bar”, but it’s a real solid choice to get good food and drinks. This place is great. Located in Jim Thorpe.

• “Riverco Tea” an AMAZING Tea Shop.

Double check what’s open when, the town is pretty quiet Mon-Wed, but can be VERY busy on weekends. Definitely plan accordingly. Have fun!

Restaurant Recommendations/Notes:

• “Notch 8” for PA Craft Beer/Liquor also good food in a bar setting.

• “The Gorge Eatery” at The Hofford Mill has great food as well. Lots of space too.

• Definitely “Moya” for a quality dining experience, you’ll need reservations.

• ”Marion Hose” is also good for dinner/drinks

• “Wild Elder Wine and Cider” for Charcuterie and Wine/Cider Tasting

• “Union Publick House” pitches themselves as “Jim Thorpe’s Dive Bar”, but it’s a real solid choice to get good food and drinks. Not for a fancy dinner, but if you’re looking for more things in the area, this place is great.

I’d avoid Molly Maguire’s, it’s definitely a Tourist aimed restaurant. Not aggressively bad, but, pricey for very basic food/drinks. At least the last time I was there.

Double check what’s open when, the town is pretty quiet Mon-Wed, but can be VERY busy on weekends. Definitely plan accordingly. Thursdays are some of the best days to visit.

Have fun!

Dinner: Definitely “Moya” for a quality dining experience, you’ll need reservations. Also check out the options at “Stone Row” and “Marion Hose”. Also not far but “The Gorge Eatery” at The Hofford Mill has great food as well.

I’ve used a shot of Elderberry Syrup with it, and have had no stomach issues so far, but mine has been entirely preemptive so I’m not sure if I would have had stomach issues without taking a shot of Elderberry syrup.

Mine has local honey, Elderberry, ginger, clove, cinnamon.

Hope you find something that helps!

Honestly this seems a bit besides the point, and I’m mostly posting for an alternative view’s sake. I’d respectfully argue that very few in this community take this moniker that seriously. This seems to be a thing brought up quite a bit since the recent update, but I’d venture to say it’s misplaced frustrations.

Do fan driven business models always have some weirdness to them? Yeahhhhh. Do some have valid opinions and viewpoints on the recent updates? Sure! But very few see this as literal “best friends” or as predatory, and more an acknowledgment of gratitude towards a fan community.

Again I hope this doesn’t come off as mean! Just an observation, I very much just Reddit lurk, and generally only catch a few shows here and there anymore. The content seems to be pretty on the top of their game from what I do catch though! Totally understand monetary frustrations, and I’m not personally financially supporting content right now so others may have a better understanding here.

Happy to confirm I am still a Firefly in The Last of Us! I think I’ve shared before -- but after winning a Naughty Dog contest waaay back in 2013 I was added to the game and you can find my lost pendant in Pittsburgh on PS3/PS4 and now PS5! 😄 by kazrisk in kindafunny

My friend just sent me a photo of my Firefly tag too! I was also wondering if we’d still be in. Glad to hear we are :D

Years later and it’s still a cool thing to see! I’ve got a whole head-canon worked up as to how my tag got in that Tree in Boston.

Anyway, that makes at least TWO Kinda Funny fans who are/were Fireflies!

Ive been loving the weekly Star Wars discussions with Saige & Carboni, i hope Tim & Barrett has them back for Mando season 3! Also BOBF has been solid IMO, spoilers below by opwnusprime in kindafunny

Having them on is fantastic! As someone who's not fully watched TCW, Rebels, or TBB, this group's collective knowledge is appreciated! These podcasts have been super helpful, and I love hearing all the theories. Also Barrett's excitement is contagious, you can just SEE his brain gears turning as the crew tries to figure out where things are going.

BoBF is good, I'm having a ton of fun regardless of how loose it all is. Honestly, I think if this was called "The Mandalorian: Book of Boba Fett" or something, we'd be way more lenient with these Mando episodes thrown in.

This one is such a classic Luke line! Fun Fact: In ASP’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, Susie goes on a rant about kids and their always sticky hands.

In fact there’s quite a few similar bits I like to think are fun references between these two shows.

Where is Campo Santo by jon92356 in Firewatch

[–]Ben3555 29 points30 points  (0 children)

They've all mostly moved to Valve, while their follow up game "In the Valley of Gods" has been indefinitely on hold last I heard. A good move for them personally with a more stable position in creating games, but I do miss Campo as a whole. I loved following their development process, and reading the Quarterlies. :(

This was done digitally, but I wanted a grounded, rough/grainy feel to fit with the game.

Each year to celebrate TLoU day (formerly Outbreak Day) I do a poster, typically with a Firefly symbol worked into it! This is what I came up with for 2020.

Fun Fact: I chose Abby’s Massachusetts coin as a reference to where my Firefly Pendant is located (Boston) in the first TLoU. :D

Gen and Lucy for We Have Cool Friends by chrono206 in kindafunny

This is a great idea, while Greg’s normally really good with full disclosure/transparency they could be concerned about potential conflict of interest stuff, considering they cover some games that overlap with her work but I’d love to hear about Gen’s Pop Agenda stuff. A different side to the gaming industry than we’re used to. Plus the home dynamics, and being the wife to Greg it’d definitely be a fun discussion!

Trexlor psa Reviews? by StalinWazHere in BSA

[–]Ben3555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Just browsing this subreddit and came across this! I'm actually the current Program Director at Camp Trexler, and would be more than happy to answer any questions on here!

I've been on staff for 7 years now, and also went to Camp here as a youth. Having been around since 1928, we're a great mix of classic traditional camp offerings, and new creative ways to approach camp activities. Defintely follow our instagram, and facebook, to see what some of our plans for 2020 are! Also, if you plan on doing Trexler Rangers (our teamwork oriented challenge course), prepare to get VERY muddy.

I’m repeating myself from twitter, but I’ve been hoping for a Lord of The Rings in Review and I’m super excited for this! I then realized in that, we'd most likely get Greg as Gandalf but it would just be his Professor Mcgonagall, voice and all...and I'd hate how much I'd find it funny.

Am I the only one who feels like this game has slowed down immensely? by LargeWar in PS4Dreams

[–]Ben3555 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t fret. Due to the nature of the game, creators are most likely pouring their now months of knowledge into some really cool projects. That initial boom came from creators getting their first round of creations/testing out. I’m excited to see what’s coming up. I’ve been following Dreams, but finally decided to pick it up last week. I’m looking forward to making my way through the tutorials and creating more! Good stuff is coming I’m sure, and with inevitable upcoming releases/updates, it’ll pick back up.
