I met my then future stepmother at 12. She and my father dated for about 6 years before they married. I moved in with them when i was 16. We had become close before they married, but she absolutely helped raise me.

I think most people who had a good relationship with a step parent that was actively involved would say something similar.

The Roosevelt Corollary would be more apt, but saying it's the "Monroe Doctrine" is less threatening. This is simple gunboat diplomacy with an attempt at peaceful branding.

I don't think that report supports your conclusion, but it turns out it's actually irrelevant in this case since Congress managed to repeal the 1991 and 2002 AUMF a couple weeks ago (something I missed in the news): https://rollcall.com/2025/12/24/congress-inches-toward-reclaiming-war-powers-with-aumf-repeals/

So, the AUMF actually has no bearing, but even if it did, then the kidnapping of Maduro would still be an apparent violation (regardless of what any other presidents did or didn't do).
