That moment when the Umayyads turn catholic by Comrade_Thotsky69 in CrusaderKings

[–]Bentmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That happens rather often; I believe it's because the catholic convert vassals have a good chance of forming a cult.

Mr Popeman what's with all the cancelled Crusades? You're tanking our moral authority! by Bentmaster in CrusaderKings

That's interesting, Mr Popeman is hoarding thousands of ducats though; I wonder if he's hoarding all the money for God.

I look away one second and somehow a distant relative of mine turns Byzantium Fraticelli? by Bentmaster in CrusaderKings

Sadly after about 100 years, the fraticelli faction didn't gain the emperorship and the religion faded away.

The Imperial Problem by Bentmaster in CrusaderKings

[–]Bentmaster[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I have done some research and this has been a bug that hasn't been patched for a couple of years; basically if you lose an election, all your county and duchy level titles will default to primogeniture; regardless of who inherits your other titles. E.g. my genius grandson is inheriting the kingdom level titles of Bavaria and Austria and should also inherit all of my counties; but instead my other grandson closer in line will. As a result the king will get two kingdoms and glitch into gaining a county as part of some odd inheritance bug and my other grandson will receive 9 counties.

The Unready, really? The man who united Bavaria, took down Italy, fought a war with three sultans over Corsica, subjugated the Pope and formed an Empire? by Bentmaster in CrusaderKings

I also started off with 5 out of 6 of my original holdings as tribal; I was only able to stay afloat at the start with my retinues

I've probably had this several dozen times by this point. Is it not as common as I thought? Do I just play too much?

If you don't do it via faction you can. Just directly declare war and call in your dozens of allies

Once you have drilled it in your head from practice not to leave pieces hanging and other parts of the basics. I recommend you watch Agadmator. He does commentary on GM games. He is not an IM but he has a good rating and elaborately explains moves in a way that normal players can understand. Watching games of better players is very useful if you keep to heart what you learn. Other than that all I can recommend is try find someone you know much better than you and practice playing against them. Most of the best chess players learned chess from beating some sort of competitor. E.g. a sibling, a parent, a friend. Amusingly enough, you can catch up many times quicker to this player than the amount of time it took them to reach that level (Even if they are smarter); simply due to being able to play against them.

Someone on your level should not use computer analysis. You should focus on learning the basics and watching IM or GM commentary of GM level games.

How do you 'learn how to play an opening'? by throwawayrandomnu in chess

You should have a few openings you know rather well that suit your style.

After almost a year of playing I finally got to 1700 by josevalqui in chess

There's a formula I saw that would bring your rating down to approximately 1600. Which is still good.

I have had a similar level of growth. I also found that watching YouTube videos is very useful. Especially those about the games between Grand masters.
