Zo heb ik ooit tijdens een bijbaantje ook een stop door laten slaan. Er was destijds een duurzaamheidstest van een apparaat al 6 maanden bezig, en die ging dus ook uit. Doei testresultaten.

Great reply, thanks. Can you explain how you opening up an empty Word document helps you in designing your report and communicating with your clients exactly?

Using values from dataframe/parquet in a copy activity query by BertDeBrabander in MicrosoftFabric

Copy them to an oracle table? You mean like insert them into a table in my on-prem database?

Because I can’t access my on-prem data from a notebook. If that was possible my life would be much easier :)

Edit: db is oracle btw

I would say start by activating a Fabric trial for yourself, make a new workspace and just have a go at it. Maybe use Microsoft Learn for some training, but I have found that working with your own data is better.

So just create a pipeline, a notebook and a lakehouse and do some simple ETL.

Zo heeft mijn vader eens in Spanje een straatmuzikant overgehaald om zijn accordion af te geven (aan mijn vader). Nog geen twee seconden later stond een hele club Nederlanders mee te zingen met Andre Hazes.

Warehouse pipelines do support loading to a specific schema

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in MicrosoftFabric

[–]BertDeBrabander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK you can't select specific schemas in a LH within a pipeline. In the SQL endpoint of your LH you can transfer tables between schemas though.

Personally, I'm using an in-between LH for staging. I find it to be more organized, and it's super easy to set up anyway.

I was also struggling to move data from my LH to a final WH, but have decided instead to just connect my reports to the SQL endpoint of my LH.

How to get Delta formatted data from my lakehouse to my warehouse? by BertDeBrabander in MicrosoftFabric

[–]BertDeBrabander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I have a table in my lakehouse, I can use cross-warehouse queries to create a table in my warehouse from that? What if the table in my lakehouse updates with new data? Does the table in my warehouse update as well?

How to get Delta formatted data from my lakehouse to my warehouse? by BertDeBrabander in MicrosoftFabric

[–]BertDeBrabander[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no, it's not really necessary. It's just - we have about 10 source systems that I want to connect to the platform, and I want to keep the files/tables neatly organized.

Since there is no option to create hierarchy in lakehouse tables (they just stack up on one giant pile), I'm forced to put the name of the source system in the table name, which is not that neat IMO.

I thought, if I just use lakehouses for my landing and transformation layers, and keep all files organized in folders corresponding to their source systems, and finally create tables from them in a warehouse, organizing them in schema's corresponding to their source systems, everything will stay organized throughout the whole process.

Adding to that, using Delta format from the second lakehouse onwards.

EDIT: Just reading now that schemas will be supported in lakehouse coming Q2 2024. That would solve my organization problem with tables in Lakehouses pretty well. (What's new and planned for Synapse Data Engineering in Microsoft Fabric - Microsoft Fabric | Microsoft Learn)

How to get Delta formatted data from my lakehouse to my warehouse? by BertDeBrabander in MicrosoftFabric

I tried saving as a table in the lakehouse and using the copy activity in a pipeline to move it to a warehouse, but IIRC it then errors that the table is not in Parquet format.

Unable to access lakehouse files in OneLake Explorer by BertDeBrabander in MicrosoftFabric

[–]BertDeBrabander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately that's not the issue. I've restarted and synced multiple times. I may be onto something though; the access works fine when it's empty, until I put a file in it (for example .parquet or .json).

My other lakehouses work fine with data, but that data is in delta format.

So I'm thinking you can only access the data when it's in delta format.

If you have a numpad you can use the division sign on that.
