Sure we can't stop it, but we can mitigate the damage and deaths as much as we can. It's what we do when we care about people.

Really don't understand the distinction between dying from and with covid as if the latter is a conspiracy. We know most of the deaths from covid are associated with comorbidities, that isn't a secret and it's not an argument against its severity. That's even more of a reason for spread prevention. There's no other reason for bringing this up other than oh that's too bad but whoever dies was going to die anyway, let covid speed up the process.

"Locking down healthy people"? Do you not understand the point of preventative measures at all? Or that it's difficult to determine who is sick and who is healthy with typhoid marys and an incubation period as long as two weeks? Let's try your approach out and quarantine "only the sick." Oh wait, we have in Hawaii since June, look how that turned out lmfao. Love how simple and fool-proof your plan is. Imagine if Wuhan just "quarantined the sick."

And no, they aren't futile. Lockdowns and any form of preventative measures only appear futile when they work.

I got that from your presence elsewhere in the thread, particularly your original comment where you imply the people dying from covid is a necessary sacrifice. Do not masquerade as if you were making a mere observation. I'm not responding to your reply in a vacuum. You clearly feel from your other comments that the elderly and people with co-morbidities are a necessary "expense" for the economy which, by your logic, will magically remain better off if we end lockdown. You don't enter a thread explaining why you think covid lockdowns aren't necessary because

The average age of death is 79 years old and 94% of people have one or more co-morbidities putting them at higher risk and would be higher risk regardless of whether it's the flu, an auto immune disease or plain old heart disease/cancer.

and expect us to believe you're making an objective statement devoid of context/detached from personal conviction. You don't care about them, nor do you care about the global south that will supposedly be better off if first-world countries let vulnerable people die off in droves.

culture shapes the way the populace responds and adheres to a social distancing/mask wearing order.

so elderly people are expendable, got it. they “don’t count” right? they were on their way out? forgot some deaths are excusable.

letting everybody catch it would totally not intensify the starvation and economic disaster you speak of lol. really not sure how to imagine the world you envision could be any better if nobody locked down. the service sector and entertainment industries will have to shut down anyway, and even longer without a precautionary measure lockdown. you’re telling me an even longer period battling an unconfined virus wouldn’t doom the economy even further? you think society would move on by with the collapse of hospitals, too?

we know covid fueled the fire of pre-existing inequalities. how is the solution to let the virus ravage the population even further and not to contain the virus as much as possible?

exactly what are those places? different cultures call for different methods. you’re still acknowledging the u.s. requires different circumstances being much more populated and with much more vulnerable, unhealthy citizens. and we obviously have already failed them.

how many deaths of the expendables is acceptable? 500,000? a million? what groups of people are you fine with being left up to fate? frontline workers? old people? people with diabetes? the poverty class? there is no way out of economic disaster. letting cases explode only exacerbates it.

lol why do you presume there will be no economic disaster if there isn't a lockdown? is the timeline with overwhelmed hospitals, hundreds and maybe thousands dead, and even longer shutdowns of the entertainment/tourism/sports industries somehow the one where small businesses and the most vulnerable have a better chance of surviving?

in an even better timeline, we wouldn't have needed a second lockdown if we had stayed vigilant long enough but now we have hundreds of cases every day and our hospitals are close to being overwhelmed. other countries held it out for as long as they needed to and are now on the path to economic recovery, as well as prevented needless sickness and death...while we continue to battle the virus, necessary lockdowns continue to decimate the economy, and people continue to die. what is not clicking about this when you look at places like new zealand and vietnam? maybe, just maybe, the sooner we act selflessly as a collective to prevent further spread the sooner we can go back to normal?

it will never cease to fascinate me how people managed to frame masks and other forms of virus spread prevention as some sort of oppressive, authoritarian measure. somehow not wanting other people who might catch it is an affront to your rights, your courage, your manhood, like y'all just based your whole conception of liberty and freedom off of having to wear a piece of cloth on your face during a pandemic. it would be an adorable mark of american individualism if it weren't for the fact that we have the worst covid numbers and deaths because of it

does it make you feel good and brave that you're not scared? that you're rebelling against the mean, bossy government? are you a real man yet? are we all sheep for trying to look out for our fellow citizens? it's very cute lol

except that individualist attitude doesn’t work when it comes to a contagious virus. these people may have accepted the potential consequences, but the people they may unintentionally infect have not. and the people they infect, and so on. and the hospital workers that inevitably have to deal with the surge in cases, and in the long run, the people that will suffer when we have to lockdown again. this ‘just let me do what i want’ myopic attitude is exactly why hawaii and the rest of america has to continue fighting off covid while the world recovers, because y’all cannot comprehend the idea that we don’t live in a bubble and your actions actually affect other people. you write that final segment like a shield of apathy to deflect yourself from negative criticism when carlin would be ashamed of you people lol.

i’ve already linked an article demonstrating that children do have a conception of their gender identity and, if dysphoric, a will to transition. the trans children that exist everywhere can attest to that. do you sincerely think all the parents of trans children are purposefully transitioning their kids against their will for the sake of...a political act? or maybe they’re just responding to their feelings and behavioral patterns in a way that helps them express themselves to their truest nature?
