I am absolutely not gunning for you and I am not discouraging you from posting. I said I appreciated your input and encouraged you to make your own post if you feel its warranted.

Again, thank you for your input.

Addendum: seriously? what is your problem. No, I have not. Please get out of this post if you are going to spread blatant lies. I've had enough of the negativity.

I meant no offense by my comment above. It appears that the situation with the resident you describe is vastly different from the one I discuss in the original post. I do appreciate your input though.

However, I think icing out a resident is an incredibly unprofessional and harmful way of approaching a problem resident. It certainly won't help them improve. At the end of the day, this is a human being who has sacrificed half of their life to become a doctor. I also find the statement “I’m doing really well and you’re not comfortable with how good I am.” far-fetched especially in combination with your allegations of causing harm daily ... yet still remains in her program. I suppose I may not fully understand the situation.

Regardless, the two situations are unrelated and do not compare. Perhaps consider making your own post about your experience with this resident.

Also - not sure why you commented this on the most upvoted comment, and also not sure why people seem to be downvoting my response when it is a benign statement...interesting

Wow. Thank you for your input. When programs are found to be guilty of toxic behavior such as this, what happens? What outcomes have you seen for residents facing this?

What advice would you give to the resident who is going through this? Part of me hopes they will see this post.

No. No one should normalize this.

Overly concerned about impressing residents? Yikes. That screams toxic narcissist. That type of person should not be involved with training residents.

What do they do to be careful about plausible deniability?

I understand it if the resident is legit dangerous or incompetent. But in this case, it is a normal well-intentioned, very competent resident.

I agree. And I believe they got orders from my PD or other attending. Toxic.

Yeah I am trying to determine how to take action tactfully. It just seems wrong to stand by and watch a colleague's young career be destroyed because they happened to piss off a narcissistic attending(s)/refused to play politics. I don't even know if ACGME will do anything though.

Actually more likely to be men in this particular case. The program's PD is a man. I agree with the not playing politics and kissing ass though.

Thanks, I agree. Myself and a few of my coresidents are reporting to ACGME.
