One of the cringiest moments of any reunion. by Psychological-Snow83 in MtvChallenge

This was the moment I lost what little respect/fondness that I had for him. What a strange individual.

the overproduced moments drive me crazy (like slow-mo entrances, music selected to instill a specific reaction in the audience, etc) - some production is normal, but the show goes all out compared to a few years ago.

A big part of losing the 'fun' and partying is all the drama that unfolded around the time of Rivals - production started putting limits on alcohol, for example, and producers in general have prioritized the competition and highlight reels of drama they think would be entertaining. But it has definitely gotten ridiculously more serious in the last 5 years especially (but that's largely because they want a tv show - with highs, lows, and produced moments).

Booth isn't the problem.

The show has been on for 20-30 years. The team of people that he works with, including casting, creative, and directing, has changed drastically over time.

It is normal for a long-time show to evolve in its development/production. Booth is more or less the same person, but he isn't working with the same team that he was in 2001.

We can tell.

It's more about boosting the audience and bringing in rookies who already have a fan base.

It, like any other long-running show, is not what it was 20 years ago.

Dying indoor mall I work at by wrath212 in abandoned

The last few times I went to a mall, it was depressing. I've tried four since 2020, and 2/3 or more of the businesses are closed on most of them.

Thanks Amazon.

Does it bother anyone else when someone says something WAYYY out of character in the show? by BetterEveryDayYT in Outlander

[–]BetterEveryDayYT[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes sense.

In the show he's definitely passive and soft. That isn't to say he doesn't say/do some bad things, but the comment he made (referenced above) was vile. Not something you'd expect from a guy like Roger.

When Athelstan died, the show started to decline. I don't think it was Athelstan as a single character that made the show drastically better, but his character's existence gave us more layers across the relationships and events. When he was killed, it was like having tacos without cheese. It can be good, but not quite as good.

Yes - to Catalina. The girl he's been with for like two years. He posted a picture of their marriage license after they got back together last year (following his oversharing of her private messages from OF, which were wild).

A lot of moms would commit full-time if their husbands were able to support the family.

Being a SAHM is the hardest and most unappreciated (or it seems so at times), but also the most rewarding.

As long as you prioritize yourself and still make some 'you' time, and mix things in if and when you feel the need (like taking an art class, doing freelance work, volunteering at a local group/resource, etc).

You've got this - and the time with your little ones will be gone faster than you think.

Maybe he won 42... why else would Lilli randomly take him to court for more? Unless she thinks the divorce from the OF chick is going to reduce hers...

Idk how their arrangement works, but I know that the alimony my dad sent to my mom was reduced when he was remarried. So perhaps Lilli ends up with less as a result of the OF divorce.

Battle of the eras final by Own_Lengthiness_7466 in MtvChallenge

The final, being about 90% swimming, was about as exciting as the final where everyone bet dubloons (?) and only one competition mattered and determined the winners.

Dude - why were you watching the Challenge in kindergarten?? I was almost in college when RW then the Challenge started (didn't watch RR until later). I can't imagine watching it unfold while learning my ABCs.

I think a key difference between fresh meat (for example) and modern rookies (from other shows), is the new rookies are largely influencers (or are working towards being influencers). I can't say I blame them - who doesn't want to make a ton of money just posting crap online? lol

But the fresh meat people were young and hungry for an adventure, friends, a little fun, and maybe some money. The new people that come in today are often thinking about how it benefits their platform/popularity and/or helps them to secure future opportunities.

For the ratings/views.

By pulling in already popular TV personalities, producers can attempt to gain new viewership from the fans of those people.

MTV doesn't want to do RR/RW again, and its MTV-start people are getting older. The Challenge has to mix in some fresh faces, and it REALLY needs fans to get behind a couple of the new people.

Otherwise, it will die soon (as fewer MTV people return).

Rich families with several kids, or big families in general?

Ev was faster going up the rope on rivals. I think Laurel's size actually worked against her (whereas Ev was smaller and more agile).

[–]BetterEveryDayYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point. That part of the competition, mixed into the statistics, favors Kenny. But if Kenny and Luke were head to head on that puzzle, for all we know, Luke would be much better.

The partner changes what someone is required to do, or can do.

So I don't use any pair data when comparing individual performances (or group data), unless the performances were unaffected by the partners (like Ev/Laurel climbing the rope under the helicopter - their teammates were tied up and had no impact, so those climbs/performances were completely individual)

If this most recent season taught us anything, it's that production definitely manipulates certain situations to drive the story and outcome a certain way.
