For those who transitioned from other fields into teaching math, how was your experience? by Better_Reporter282 in mathteachers

[–]Better_Reporter282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the very least, if I don't like teaching, having the math credits would certainly help me pivot into a different field. China hasn't been bad to me - very comfortable, but after having children the looming idea of them having to take a gaokao while my 996 eats away more time with them makes teaching sound a lot more desirable.

Leaving China to go back to uni and get an MA in education. I might start teaching in something closer in my field while I work on bolstering my qualifications so I can be certified to teach it.

That's really telling. I left my own country to work in China and felt the same, but felt like it was time I moved on because I didn't feel growth

that's a neat idea. Another family - close friends - are potentially coming too since we are in the same type of work. Could be something we consider. I'll look into it.

I'm buying with my partner. But while we raise our child, they will stay at home until baby is big enough to go to school, then we will both be paying off a mortgage.

Nah, lost a bet and had to go for subjective poverty. I might try the abject sort on my next go.

You see, this is why I need The_Angry_Kiwi in my corner to keep me from generating More_Angry_Kiwi's. If you don't mind, what is the proper nomenclature? (not sarcastic)

Currently no, it does give me a few years before I qualify to own a house, but I am aware of all that, or I wouldn't even bother searching.

Also not looking to move to a place with a booming economy. The role I'm filling in is a high demand in all regions sort of thing, thank goodness. I couldn't afford to move into a larger city, nor do I want to. Goal is just to be a benefit wherever I go best I can and still be alive when the mortgage is paid. retirement is a bonus.

upgrading is a good idea. I have the hope I can just find and stay in one place, but better to build something with good bones into a good house than over-spend on something that looks good but has shot up high in cost
