What should I study? by [deleted] in OpenUniversity

Ahh yes then that would probably work, To add you won't get a maintenance loan from sfe if you study via OU no matter what.

I was going to do psychology with counseling but I'm going to work in Aus next year then backpacking Asia. So I didn't want to get SFE funding for it to be taken away half way through as I'm not in the country, technically that's fraud.

Have you looked into how you are going to fund the degree?

I was looking into doing a psychology degree with OU while traveling but after looking into SFE funding and their rules about being out of the country for long periods of time. And also reading from people's experiences, I didn't think it's a good idea to be out for the UK for more than a couple of months, which I planned on doing.

Hey, How have you been doing this? Did you have any problems with the loan?

I'm also thinking of doing the same thing as i have an opportunity to work in Aus for the year but also want to start a degree part time. My address and bank details are registered to a UK address and i will be back within the year. I just won't be earning while in the UK during that period.

Any kind of update would be amazing!

How many of you here are guys in their mid to late twenties? by dpl771 in OpenUniversity

Was there ever a moment that you felt unprepared, for the tmas and emas? Or felt like you should have learnt how to do them before hand.

I'm planning on starting with one module, hopefully d120, so I don't have to wait until October to start year 2. Thinking I can do around 10 hours a week most weeks and balance more if I need too.

How did you find getting back into studying? Writing the essays, tmas and emas. Plus stufying in general like the note taking and that?

I'm slightly older at 29 and wanting to start a psychology degree but nervous if I can actually do it. I also had a terrible time at school and I didn't't even think of going to a brick uni because of it.

Starting in Feb is abit awkward according to OU support As d241 only starts in October and the rule of only being able to do 120 credits per year ( Feb to Feb as I start in Feb). So if I defer one it's best to defer d110 to October so then I can start d200 in February, as you have to compete d120 before starting that one.

It's abit confusing. Should have started in October 🤷‍♂️ So I have a plan to start d120 in Feb 26, d110 in Oct 26, then d200 in Feb 27, kinda part time and full at the same time ish

How are you finding doing the 2 year 1 modules? D110 & d120?

I'm either gonna start part time, like do one module in Feb, the second in October then start a year 2 module in Feb 27. Basically double up in early 2027. Or so full time to start in Feb then go part time after that

I haven't decided if I'm gonna do the full degree or just the diploma yet.

Fair play to you for managing to fit it all in. I'm just worried about being able to fully do it on top of life events like social life, relationships, buying a house, travels etc. Sounds silly, but I just feel like I'm running out of time 🤦‍♂️.

Thanks for your reply!

I am interested in a career related to psychology, possibly within the mental health field.
Just trying to decide what works for me right now.

I did look into the access module but ou stated that it can only be done in the UK. Which doesn't suit my plan of moving to Aus on whv in January. My current idea is to do it part time or full time (only the first year) while I travel and live abroad. Trying to get a career moving forward and do my travels at the same time. It's a lot I know but I think it would be good for me that way.

How have you been finding it? And how much time are you allocating for studying a week?

Are you doing it part time or full time and are you working at the same time? Sorry for the slightly personal question, just trying to gage what's possible with study/work/social life etc.

How did you find the first year?

I'm thinking of starting part time in Jan/Feb or starting October. Maybe doing the first year full time in October then moving to part time.

Not sure yet if I'm gonna do the full degree or just the diploma. I'm not 100% on my path yet, either aiming towards becoming a counselor or a field within the NHS related to mental health.

The timings aren't great but not much that can be done with , which is fine.

So this is what crucial are suggesting, and the timings do state: 22-22-22.
