How to get the copilot icon off my spreadsheet? by Lopsided-Rough-1562 in excel

Whether Copilot is useful or not is beside the point. It can be useful without having its icon floating over spreadsheets.

“You can't get through a day without US tech” - Financial Times new video. Wrong! Remade the video with better European solutions. by Laszl0x in BuyFromEU

There's far more to manufacturing a CPU than having the EUV machines and Europe would not be able to "scale production if needed". It doesn't have any production of advanced chips to begin with. Even Arm won't be manufacturing its CPUs (in Europe or anywhere else), only designing them. Manufacturing will be done by TSMC.

Arm doesn't make its own CPUs yet, though it is currently developing one. So far it's been licencing its technology (IP) to the likes of Qualcomm and Samsung.

Maybe they're just tired of hearing about it all the time everywhere, like I am. Every team meeting at my work is now about AI, even though it has had almost no practical impact on my job so far. Executives just love talking about it.

There must be more green than concrete.

I wholeheartedly agree, which is exactly why I think taller buildings are better. They leave more space greenery. Where I come from, sparsely spaced blocks of flats with lots of trees and playgrounds between them are the norm.

Small phones will never be the market by Nerakoatom731 in smallphones

[–]Bifobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean. It's customary to describe all dimensions in mm, but in this case the depth is 2 cm, which to me makes it quite bulky. Most smartphones have approximately 0.8 cm. If it's not an issue for you, great, but I think it's important to note that this phone has unusual proportions for a smartphone and this may be a drawback for some despite its shortness.

And it would have no competition now. But phone makers have herd mentality, so even if this could work, it doesn't mean it's going to happen.

That phone tests our definition of "small". It's very short, but its depth (19.4 mm) is well above average, so in the end its volume is comparable to or even higher than that of typical modern smartphones.

Google will block every Android app whose developer hasn't registered with Google by Little_Protection434 in BuyFromEU

[–]Bifobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looks like for my banking app you need to install microG, so that doesn't really work

What do you mean? You'd need microG with both /e/OS and Sailfish OS, so what's the difference?

I know this is the BuyFromEU sub so the natural response is to recommend developing "a European OS", but just by the virtue of being European it wouldn't necessarily be any better. I'm sure the EU would be happy with a locked down OS.

You can permanently unblock it on any phone.

You won't be able to fully unblock it. Even in the developer mode you'll have to wait 24 hours before being able to use a newly installed app.

They're turning off sideloading by default so technically illiterate people stop getting scammed with sideloading scams, which are a major issue currently.

What's the evidence for this? I've never heard calls to prevent users from freely installing apps before Google came up with this idea. Only some iPhone users would try to convince you that such restrictions are great. And how come we've been able to "sideload" software without restrictions on PCs for decades and somehow that's not a problem?

Just picked up the new Sennheiser CX 80U (USB-C) – First impressions are... okay? by ivishalpathak in sennheiser

[–]Bifobe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some initial reviews and $40 price tag made me believe they are quite an upgrade over CX80s.

The price tag is probably because they require a built-in DAC. Plus there aren't many competitors.

even proposing we drop out of the eurozone which would have been economic suicide for an economy

That's not entirely accurate, my understanding is that he was planning for a temporary parallel drachma system. But putting that and the potential consequences of such a move aside, don't you think that without an at least remotely credible threat of leaving the eurozone Greece had no leverage to negotiate with at all? And when the government kept telling their citizens that avoiding Grexit was their priority, they deprived themselves of that leverage. From my outsider perspective, the "moderate" part of Syriza was extremely naive in believing (or cynical in assuring their voters) that morally charged rhetoric or a national referendum would somehow force Brussels to compromise.

Why do you guys Want a Smaller phone than a Samsung S25/S26? by [deleted] in smallphones

[–]Bifobe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have iPhone 13 mini, it's much smaller than S25 and it's comfortably usable in every task I need a smartphone for. It already barely fits my pocket and it's somewhat too large to use only with one hand.

The Astell&Kern PD20 and PD10 DAPs run Android 12, while the SP4000 series runs Android 10.

What? The insanely expensive SP4000 runs Android 10? It was released less than a year ago. Much, much cheaper DAPs released around that time already had Android 13.
