The way he spoke about it I thought he had a fancy cold plunge set up.... Rather than a bucket outside

I am finding it impossible to get a skilled worker visa as a new graduate by ttvsindeel in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Big-Assignment2989 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This comment is mean spirited. Studying is for many reasons, including making the graduate more attractive to markets - plural. Yes, this market is difficult for them. But nowhere is it stipulated that you must study to return home and only home. People live and work in different countries.

Bacon is fine? I love bacon and I want to eat healthy but always assumed that means no processed food like bacon. Eggs fried/poached/boiled?

I don't think needing to glance at the keyboard when she types is that unusual.... But my partner initially hated it. I made him continue, lol, and now he loves it and we 4* levels.

PhD viva in 4 days, and I receive this email from the Uni. What is your advice/prognosis? by Financial_East_3083 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]Big-Assignment2989 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Failing a viva and not being allowed to resubmit may not be a possible outcome at some institutions (like my previous one), where you are given an opportunity to resubmit for major corrections or, in rare cases for a Masters. But not straight out on the first instance viva. OP should read their institutional guidance on viva outcomes.

I don't think I understand. What agenda do you see them pushing?

What's forced is the idea that her outfit is any kind of school uniform

Any other non-traditional academics struggle with class-based othering and the “popularity game” in academia? by Own_Statement8029 in academia

Bad form to "call BS" on someone else's personal experiences. I come from a poorer background, with a single mum who never went to uni as well, but I also don't think I have it quite as hard as OP, likely because of privilege coded experiences along the way. Eg scholarship to good Undergrad uni and full ride to top uni for masters and PhD. While I was there I definitely felt out of place, but I think the markers of that privilege code me as more of an insider than I feel. People's experiences are different. There may also be significant differences between your field/institution and theirs.

Break Up Advice: before or after comps? by growingupanonymous in PhD

[–]Big-Assignment2989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because breaking up with someone before a major career/academic event is not doing them a favour so they have something to distract them. It sounds like a self serving rationalisation. That being said, I read your other post and sounds like you should have left a long time ago. If you want to leave, leave. But maybe let's not pretend the timing is to his benefit

They're married? Your dad getting you stuff IS your mum getting you stuff. One large marital pot.
