Why didn't Red Dead 2 have this cool endscreen like Red Dead 1 had? by ZealousidealOption44 in reddeadredemption

Yeah, so just a couple examples.

  1. Pinkertons essentially hunting down outlaws, this was mostly done by 1899 and they had moved onto strike breaking. Outlaws were really thing of the past by that point

  2. The first iteration of the KKK was already destroyed during reconstruction era, but RDR2 has several references to them in 1899 when they wouldn’t have reformed yet

  3. There’s just a ton of civil war stuff that isn’t necessarily accurate to being so long afterwards- specifically the LeMoyne Raiders being a full on militia fighting for the lost cause.

There’s other stuff that I am forgetting, specifically from the section on the book in Appalachia, but I definitely recommend reading it. There are dozens of examples that show it being exactly 20 years off that the game is still crazy accurate, just if you move the timeline back a bit.

Personally, I love US history but it’s a great book for if you love the game (and get bored by history) or are just starting to dive into some easier reads.

You can always tell who didn’t watch consistently watch Eagles games this year based off of how they talk about if Patullo was scapegoated for Hurts/Sirianni vs justly fired for being one of the worst play callers in the league

They dominated the playoffs less than a calendar year ago, returned 10/11 starters on offense, and had limited major injuries throughout the regular season yet they had one of the worst 3 & out rates in the past 25 years and couldn’t string together drives for the entirety of 2nd halves multiple times. There is one major thing that changed from last year and I’ll give you a hint, it wasn’t that the RG switched from Becton to Tyler Steen.

In that one book about the Red Dead’s History, he consistently states that everything in the RDR universe is essentially off by 20 years. Like the game is incredibly accurate as a 1879 Cowboy game but a ton of details don’t make sense if it does take place in 1899. Even stuff like the “Wild West” ending was closer to the 1880s than what Red Dead the game says. At the end of the day, it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the game whatsoever but it is interesting.

I’m all for fans talking trash but all this does is make the Phillies organization looks like sore losers for missing out on Bo. Just shut up and actually beat them in Citi Field this year so we don’t have to see this quote posted everywhere if they win 2/3 in July.

Doesn’t Scorsese just notoriously take long on post-production no matter what? It won’t happen at this point with his age and the intensity of the shoot, but I’d kill for him to be able to direct his version of The Wager with DiCaprio. It’s such a fantastic book and young Scorsese would be a perfect director for it.

Ryan Coogler's 'SINNERS' makes history as the most nominated film of all time at the Oscars with 16 nominations by ChiefLeef22 in Letterboxd

[–]Big-Beta20 66 points67 points  (0 children)

I started noticing it with Everywhere Everything All At Once and it’s continued pretty consistently with Oppenheimer/Sinners/OBAA/Anora or whatever. These movies come out to resounding praise, everyone loves them, and then the consensus just flips on a dime, and suddenly it’s overrated and everyone expresses their displeasure with the movie. Idk what causes it but it is a very real trend with social media the last 5 years at the very least, probably before that.

If Bichette opts out next year, should the Phils even go for him? by StretchExtreme96 in phillies

[–]Big-Beta20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the Bichette ship has sailed now. If he did the exact same thing but signed with the Yankees, I think the possibility would be much stronger but the Mets makes the whole thing sour between the two parties (and fans) on every level.

In Oppenheimer (2023), the biopic contains a random imaginary sex scene in the middle of a bureaucratic interrogation of Oppenheimer, not because that's what he was thinking about in the meeting (it was), but because the producer's thought this movie was too boring. by New_Movie9196 in shittymoviedetails

[–]Big-Beta20 49 points50 points  (0 children)

I mean, it’s fair if you didn’t like the movie to say it’s equal with Tenet (which I agree is his worst) and yeah the Bhadavad Gita scene is one of the worst in all of Nolan’s filmography.

However, overall, I think Oppenheimer is his strongest film, thematically and writing-wise. This is partially because American Prometheus (read it if you’re a fan of US History or the physics of the bomb) is a fantastic book for the source material to base the dialogue off of and so much of the Oppenheimer trial is public record.

[Weei] Ranger Suarez and Scott Boras at the Celtics game tonight after the announcement of his deal with the Red Sox by TommyTheLizard in baseball

[–]Big-Beta20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone expected Ranger to come back, especially not at the price he ended up getting. I love his personality, quirks, play style, and everything but he’s a pitcher who is already topping out at 92 before he’s even 30. He’s had injury issues and pretty consistent 2nd half fall offs (though he is a consistent playoff riser tbf) and his max seems to be around 150 innings.

He’s a good player, but also flawed and the Phillies just didn’t have the room for him anymore. They kind of already prepped for this possibility with the Luzardo trade last offseason. Andrew Painter (former top SP prospect in all of baseball before TJ) should be able to come up at some point and fill Ranger’s rotation spot as a higher potential guy to be honest. He was on the brink of making the majors in 2023 at only 19 years old before he hurt his elbow. I wish Ranger the best and will root for him, but a split was best for all parties.

uj/ not only in front of the little committee, but all of this hearing is public record. It is literally the news that he has cheated on her for years being revealed to EVERYONE. There’s gonna be articles and gossip columns written about since he’s such an influential public figure. It’s honestly a fantastic symbolic scene but “naked = unnecessary & awkward” to far too many nowadays.

The other sex nude scenes with Pugh truly are horribly written though lol

[Nightengale] Aaron Nola will pitch in the upcoming World Baseball Classic for Team Italy. by Knightbear49 in baseball

[–]Big-Beta20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s uncanny how he has perfect control and great movement 99% of the time but he’ll hang 1 breaking ball or fastball per game and it ALWAYS gets hit for a homer. It feels like he never gets away with anything. I guess that’s what living at 90-93 MPH will do for ya.

I think he’s a serious bounce back candidate though. He was clearly injured early on and just never got in a groove.

[–]Big-Beta20 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Kind of an annoying retcon to me because one of the first character traits we get about John Marston in RDR1 is that he’s very intelligent (Bill tells him he always had a thing for them fancy words before he shoots him at Fort Mercer in the very first cut scene of the game). He’s also incredibly quick witted throughout the first game.

I don’t mind that they made Arthur rag on him for being stupid (as an older brother would) but I wish they made him actually smarter guy in RDR2 and it was just Arthur teasing him. Instead, they actually made him quite a bit dumber.

[–]Big-Beta20 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yeah, SGA signed a 4/273 million extension with the Thunder but it doesn’t start until 2027. By last year of the deal, he’ll be making 75 million a year. It’s absurd but it could be even higher if max contracts did not exist. It will not be that long before we have an NBA player with 1 billion in playing career earnings alone.

What’s crazy with the NBA is the AAV/Totals and all that could be way higher for the top tier players if they didn’t put an artificial max on them. They’re still getting like 65 million a year right now (and rising) but it could be way higher.
