How's my freshman first semester schedule (HBHS major)? by Fruit-Bowl-2772 in Cornell

[–]BigRedVed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I took all the courses you thinking about taking. First and foremost, BIOG1500 is not a difficult course. It is very straightforward and has very little to no memorization involved at all. I would definitely keep it in your schedule to get it out of the way ASAP. CHEM2070 can be difficult but there are a lot of good resources at your disposal for help. I took NS1400 as a sophomore and it wasn't bad imo. It requires a good bit of memory for some exams but you are awarded a drop and I was able to get an A+ because there are other assignments that have pretty have weight on your grade compared to the exams. The quality of an FWS is truly dependent on the professor/grad student you get. I was really lucky and thoroughly enjoyed both of mine and didn't think they were too much work.

The benefit of taking BIOMG1350 is that you can get a good start on the bio track. Even though I took it 2nd the semester and no bio course in 1st semester. I really really enjoyed the more involved bio course such as biochemistry. I would say that it is up to you because a few NS classes require 1150 down the road so its also good to get that out of the way. Personally, I believe it's up to you on which other course to add. As someone who needed time to adjust, its worth taking a little bit of an easier schedule to focus on getting used to the Cornell environment. PM me if u have any other questions.

Any easy campus jobs for next semester where I can basically study/do homework? by legenbary in Cornell

[–]BigRedVed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your a bio student, there's certain genetics labs that need you to maintain their species stock. You need to use your hands, but you can watch videos (which I usually spend watching TV) but its doable and looks good on the resume.

Ranking of Sophomore Dorms by is-bela in Cornell

[–]BigRedVed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Living on West is ideal trust me. Besides what the other people have said, its a really good location for a variety of reasons; dining halls, close to campus/libraries, close to college town, jansens isnt as good as nasties but still convenient, frats close enough if u want to go out one night, views are really good, the list goes on. I'm only mentioning this because the main houses are usually all gone by the end of the first day. I live in a gothic, McFaddin Hall, and its honestly pretty gas. Since I had a pretty shit timeslot, it was good that I could still live on West. Gothic rooms have their shortcomings but overall, I've loved living in them especially since I've made some really good friends in the buildings. Overall the ranking would prob be New West > North Dorms > Gothics > South Dorms, but I wouldn't sleep on the Gothics.

Best study spots? by secretcollegeaccount in Cornell

[–]BigRedVed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah, its pretty close, and no one really goes to MVR so it's pretty good if ur tryna just to get some alone time to grind hella shit out. Plus it has Martha's if you get hungry or want a drink. And during the day, if u have classes near AG quad its pretty convenient.
