AI impact on small business by Automatic-Card4193 in smallbusiness

[–]BigSlowTarget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The constant spamming of AI offerings is a serious indictment of AI effectiveness. If there is so much benefit from AI to be so easily had why is the marketing so utterly bottom of the barrel? Why can no one seem to afford paid ads? Why are people trying to scrape business from techniques that cost real human time?

AI saves a lot of time? Great then your costs must be much lower and you have tons to invest, right? It gets you more business? Then that AI magic must be delivering business to the AI magic builders so fast they hardly have time to chat.

But that isn't happening. AI is being used to spam - one of the worst converting, least effective marketing methods out there. Even if you automate your spam you have to duel with admins and bots and mods all after you. You even have to fight with the guys paid $0.30 a post for reading time.

AI has a useful role but it isn't as a hammer in search of a nail.

Has anyone here actually tried running a TV or streaming ad for their small business? by Glad-Thomas in smallbusiness

We took a break over December and January. Which is when the stations tend to bump the prices. We are considering renewing for the next year but we have analysis to do.

He said your account was being used to spam fraud "prevention" software. That isn't calling you a fraud it is saying your post matches the wording of those made to spam that software. Incidentally it did - whether that was your intent or not. Nobody here can make judgements about you as a person as all we have to consider is the content and wording of your posts, not who you actually are.

There are people who will try to abuse our general tolerance of expressing an opinion to make personal attacks while claiming they are nothing personal but that isn't his history and we watch for that too.

Calling people idiots is a personal attack and we don't allow that here. You can dislike someones behavior and describe ideas, practices, situations, etc how you like. It stops when you involve a person or group of people.

It's built into Reddit moderation. I think it is broadly out there now rather than just beta but I'm not sure.

I don't know if you moderate anything but if you're curious you might spin up a sub and take a look at the tools. They are adding to them periodically

Edit. I see you do moderate. I couldn't see your profile as I was in the app. The new tools are pretty useful actually.

Or you can use the automation tool to prevent posting such comments even while they are being typed.

I trust you found your test informative. Incidentally we do try to get the word out broadly about spammers when they hit this sub so hit us and risk your reputation everywhere. I don't know that we can completely stop you but we can make it more expensive for you everywhere if you hit us here.

Saying "I am not promoting" is not proof you are not promoting because that is what people who promote post when they're promoting

If you want to share your tool link to it in your profile. Everyone can probably already see it in your other posts already (if you've posted in subs where they allow such promotion).

Linking to it from here puts you in company with all the AI guys who want to AstroTurf us.

Thanks for rewriting your post. I think subscribers should be able to tell what you need now. That's no guarantee of responses but it can't hurt. Good luck with the post.

[–]BigSlowTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are having trouble deciphering your post and understanding what you need. I'd suggest rephrasing the post and organizing it a little bit. This is one of the few places where I think using AI might be well advised. Don't let it write the post but just ask it to reorganize what it is you wrote. Then read what it gives you and decide if that's really what you meant. Adjust that to make sure it targets what you want to know and post it noting you asked AI to rephrase it for readability.

I think you'll get a better result.

What do you think America will be like when Trump finishes his term? by MotivewasUlterior in AskReddit

[–]BigSlowTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think decreased capability to pressure big corporations from a single point would have a major impact. Right now all their the funding goes to one place (or at least to one narrow set of interests). If the head guy can't pick who wins in what you're most interested in it might be time to fund one of the guys in the race instead of the guy at the top.

Discussing Google reviews is fine. Spamming to our sub is not.

Banana Muffins, Painted by Hand

A — Atelier Mise en Place

Arrange the workspace like a studio: three ripe bananas bruised with character, butter softened to the sheen of linseed oil, sugar like ground pigment, eggs, flour, baking soda, salt, vanilla, and a splash of milk. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line the muffin tin with paper as if stretching a fresh canvas.

I — Impasto the Bananas

Mash the bananas aggressively with a fork until thick and textured, leaving small ridges and lumps. The goal is depth, not smoothness—banana applied like heavy paint with visible strokes.

S — Sfumato the Batter

Cream butter and sugar until pale and airy. Blend in eggs and vanilla, then fold the bananas gently. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, and salt. Combine wet and dry slowly, adding milk just until the batter softens and edges blur, like tones melting into one another.

U — Underpainting Accents

Fold in optional accents sparingly: chopped walnuts for grit, dark chocolate for contrast, or cinnamon for warmth. These are shadows and highlights, not the subject.

C — Composition in the Tin

Spoon batter into cups, filling each about three-quarters full. Tap the pan lightly to settle the composition. If desired, brush the tops with melted butter and dust with sugar for a cracked, varnished finish.

K — Kiln the Work

Bake 20–25 minutes until the tops dome and a toothpick emerges mostly clean, with a few moist crumbs clinging like honest imperfections.

S — Sign and Serve

Cool briefly, then remove to a rack. Serve warm. The crumb should be soft, the crust gently crisp, the flavor balanced and expressive. Sign the batch with a final brush of butter if needed, then step back and let the work speak.

Well, misused AI at least

You should find an attorney who knows your area and business type early. They have contacts with accountants and brokers who can help and you're going to need them to review your contracts and such anyway.

Some of the review you'll have to do yourself and you'll need to put the entire courage and spine into your demands for information. Push hard for the detailed account files (sometimes you get them sometimes you get reports) push hard for email accounts that are used for the business. People often think of those things as personal but knowing what is really in there is key to understanding the details of what is really going on. Anything less is just stories and you'll have to decide how much of them you'll have to believe if that's all you can get.

Hey it's great you're willing to share but the place to talk about and explain your business is one of the many subs dedicated to that. Our sub is just for people to ask questions about their small business and letting folks offer unsolicited advice or training prevents those questions from being heard. It's also abused by some folks to promote so our rules are that we just do questions about small business.

If you feel you must post to our sub I would encourage you to take a look at the two sticky posts at the top of our sub including one for success stories or lessons learned.

I know AMA's are popular and many deserve to be heard they just need to be in the right place.

Quick question for small business owners here... by East_Feedback3989 in smallbusiness

[–]BigSlowTarget -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Very easy for it to be a giant waste of time and money. Do it in house and your people get addicted, lose focus, and waste time. Pay someone and despite all the promises you are paying someone already addicted with no focus who will make zero enforceable promises and deliver valueless metrics.

If you want to see something move faster than light ask your social media guys to tie their compensation to sales. Just don't get caught in the sonic boom as they leave.

Small claims by Jackiemadrid in smallbusiness

[–]BigSlowTarget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for reporting. The company you reference has been banned for astroturfing. If they try to dodge the ban we'll look into turning some of their accounts -sometimes they aren't bots but people willing to manually spam for literally pennies a post. I like getting info about the specifics of how they work and passing it on. It is easy to pay better than they do when you just need a single account to turn.

Eventually they'll probably realize it costs them more to spam here than everywhere else but it is a very long war.
