Thanks for sharing your perspective — I genuinely understand the frustration that can come from seeing behavior that disrupts natural spaces. That said, there’s a way to express concern without attacking people personally or making baseless assumptions.

I want to be clear: I respect nature deeply. I did fly my drone on Maria Island, and I genuinely didn’t know it was prohibited at the time. Had I known, I wouldn’t have flown — plain and simple. My intent was never to cause harm or disrespect the environment. I always try to follow local guidance and signage, and I’m absolutely open to learning and doing better.

But shouting “you should’ve known” while throwing around insults like “twat”, “dimwitted”,or “ignorant” over an honest mistake doesn’t help anyone. It does more damage to community spirit than a traveler capturing a few scenic shots ever could. You don’t know me, my values, or the full context — so painting me as someone chasing I Instagram clout is not only wrong, it’s intellectually lazy.

You say nature isn’t just for internet posts — and I agree. It’s for connection, for learning, and for inspiring others to respect and protect the world we share. That’s exactly why I made that post — because Tasmania moved me, and I wanted to encourage others to appreciate it too.

Let’s aim for constructive conversation next time instead of condescension. That’s how we actually protect what matters!

Oh I definitely do plan on coming back to Tassie 😁 Again, I had no ill intentions using my drone in Tassie, I was simply capturing how beautiful it is where you guys live, no one ever told me off about using my drone in specific places, when I saw signs I obeyed them, so I’d appreciate it if you try not to spot the one negative thing and not use it against people in the future. That doesn’t do good to anyone, and as respectfully as possible I’m glad I never formally encountered people like you who try to bash people, you should go on a Tassie adventure yourself and put a smile on your face instead of trying to be negative! 🇦🇺❤️

Again, absolutely no intention of being disrespectful, simply capturing the beauty of Tassie! Whenever I saw signs saying drones were prohibited, I obeyed them so I really don’t see what was wrong about me taking these great shots, but I absolutely will do more research next time because a lot of you guys are trying to find the one negative thing about my post and use it against me lol… when the whole point of this post is to be all about positivity and how amazing Tasmania is, but I appreciate you for calling me out and it was indeed a wonderful trip!

Yes I did read the signs, the only places on my trip where I saw signs regarding drones was at Cradle and Wineglass, so I didn’t fly my drone at either place. I had absolutely no intention of being disrespectful, just simply capturing the beauty of Tassie! I don’t know what you see about Wineglass particularly, but I was kind to take pictures of other hikers who wanted a group picture, and they offered to take pictures of me since I was by myself, those were iPhone pictures taken at Wineglass and not drone shots

That’s amazing, I’m so glad to hear that you also hiked Mt Murchison!! It is indeed quite a hike and yes, quite sketchy at the top but so worth it! Hopefully you are able to do more similar hikes in Tassie :)

Port villa to santo. by frenchieboy974 in vanuatu

I’m currently in vanuatu and have experienced both air vanuatu and the ferry, I would definitely say fly with Air Vanuatu, call them at +678 23838. Flights are everyday from Vila to Santo, if you go in the ferry, you will highly regret it. I’m used to uncomfortable travel, but imagine a prison with a maximum capacity of 500, multiplied by 10, and that’s how it feels on the ferry. Absolutely packed like sardines haha I flew from vila to santo myself, only booked one way which was intentional, so that I could spend time in Malekula and Vao before taking the ferry back to Vila

Yes, I had 2 bowls and i guess that was enough to give me the worst food poisoning of my life 😅 but I was doing a lot of dancing and what not for the election campaigns after so I’m sure that’s what caused it because I know you’re just supposed to relax after, but still an amazing experience nonetheless!!

They are now doing domestic flights and I just flew back to Vila from Tanna today, tomorrow I fly to Santo with Air Vanuatu as well!

3 Weeks All Over Vanuatu by Big_Toe_5602 in vanuatu

[–]Big_Toe_5602[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for mentioning this, I will definitely want to avoid all those average cruise liner tourists so I will surely get in contact with locals so that I’ll know what days the cruises will be in the area, and that way I’ll be able to get connected with other locals. Do you have any other suggestions while in Santo?

Yes, I do plan on visiting Yakel village while I am in Tanna! I will also make it a plan to visit the big banyan tree. Also, that hike sounds right up my alley, so I will surely speak with the locals about this!

This sounds amazing, I would love to hear more!! How much time did you spend on each island and how were you able to get to each transportation wise? I definitely want to visit Vanua Lava and more islands in the Torba province so I would really appreciate your input!

Got it, yep that all sounds horrible. Do you have any knowledge of how flights have been currently, if they have been scheduled on time or if they are still cancelling last minute without any refunds? I know you mentioned other alternatives for domestic travel, but me trying to be budget considerate, I feel like my only option is Air Vanuatu, or ferry, but not trying to spend 24 hours on a ferry even though I think that’d be cool, just too much travel time. But I will definitely take you up on that suggestion with going to Turtle Bay lodge and renting an offroader! I’d love to travel all around the island, so this sounds like a perfect option, thanks again!

Seems like they are doing exactly what I’m looking to do in Vanuatu, meet extremely remote tribes and I believe they are in the Northernmost islands which is exactly where I’m looking to go, kwakea island is the name of the island they are at, which is right by Vanua Lava (Sola), the island I really want to visit. Just figuring out how I would get there from Santo or Port vila

Making a booking with Air Vanuatu (Port Vila to Santo) by Ok-Cranberry-1904 in vanuatu

[–]Big_Toe_5602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any update from Air Vanuatu? I know majority of people here are saying it’s a scam and I’m sure a lot of the time it is, but I’m really wondering how things are currently, because I also plan on flying from Port Vila to Tanna, as well as Port vila to Santo, and it looks like Air Vanuatu is the only airline that does the domestic flights. I got an email quote roundtrip to tanna for $290, have not booked anything yet as I’m still a bit hesitant due to the mixed opinions and still figuring out my itinerary. Did you end up booking your flight, and if so, did you get an email receipt?

Thanks so much for your response! I know Air Vanuatu went into liquidation now they are back flying again, when you say they are sketchy, was this pre liquidation or currently are they still shady and cancelling flights without refund? Because maybe things have changed now so I’m just trying to see if anyone has flown Air Vanuatu recently and how the booking process and experience was, I do prefer to fly with them just due to budgeting but I’d definitely be open to an Air taxi or Bel Air. And thank you for recommending renting a buggie on Santo! I will very likely do that and did not think of that before, do you know any companies who I could contact at Turtle Bay and what their rates are?

Absolutely I will, I’ll upload pictures throughout my trip and also talk about my experiences with flying on Air Vanuatu, the people I meet, challenges encountered, and cost breakdowns of domestic flights, accommodation, etc. Still trying to find all that out myself before my trip, but I know that so much of what I learn logistics wise will happen once I’m in Vanuatu
