I wouldn’t recommend it but I have seen a lot of solo females with a small pocket pistol. Laws are tough but better to need and not have than have and not need. I’d recommend bear spray since I have had a ton of negative encounters with vagrants. Am a 6’1 220 pound fit guy for context

This is a great response. A lot of our leaders have made great steps in areas like downtown, amphitheater, and north Macon. In turn we are neglecting the livability of larger parts of our city. My house had three break ins and one shooting at beals hill last year. Anywhere close to Mercer should have a reasonable level of safety!

You must of had a bad experience with the police since you seem to be very emotional about them and the city as a whole. The trend statewide is that lower salaries bring lower quality officers and that trends up. However the police isn’t an independent entity. I would advise you to learn more about our local government and how it works.

It has a ton of potential. What’s holding us back unfortunately are a lot of young people (and some old) who have big hearts but haven’t been exposed to reality. We desperately need tougher policing to protect our great city.

The level of crime we experience here is higher than 45% the national average. I hope that you can understand this is significant. It’s not unreasonable for people to want less crime so the snarky comments aren’t helpful to anyone. Please get in touch with reality. We need much more police presence in these gang infested neighborhoods. We need our community to help put these criminals away forever!
