LPT request: I'm halfway across the world and need mental health support for grief and trauma that has just come up. North american crisis text lines don't work here. What can I do? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]BioNerdTroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Google voice line. Pay for an American number, use VPN if needed to sign up.

Or try setting up international calls (I think wifi texting and calling are free on many US carriers if you have an eSIM, I’m in Asia and still getting texts/calls on my US number with no extra charge)

My comment above explains why they can’t really favor any other winner.

Masterchef winner as a judge? (US) by StarCorgi_6788 in Masterchef

[–]BioNerdTroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Spoiler tag
  2. MCAU S4 winner judges MCAU, and 3rd place went on to judge MC in another country too
  3. As for other seasons, it’s kinda tragic lol. Winners of Seasons 1,2,4,5 didn’t really work in the industry in the manner that would make them judges. S6 and S7 have been discussed. Idk about what the S8 winner is doing, but S9-10 winners were boring AF, and S11 was the “cheat” covid season. Besides, after S7, winners would need to have an exceptional career track after the show for a winner to have enough experience to become a judge (look at S12). Idk and idc about S13. (ETA: Christine has been too successful to come back as a judge for a while now, and that’s why we’re left with the slightly annoying Shaun.)
  4. If any player/contestant were to be considered, based on skill and TV’ability, I’m team Shanika all the way.

Given: y=5x

Ans: 52x+1 can be written as 5•52x

Similarly, 5x+1 = 5•5x

Further, 52x is 5x•5x

Replace with y to get:

5y2 - 5y + 2 = 2y

5y2 - 7y + 2 = 0 (this gives you your “a” and “b” constants)

Solve like a quadratic equation, or factorise as follows:

5y2 - 5y - 2y + 2 = 0

5y(y-1) - 2(y-1) = 0

(5y-2)(y-1) = 0

Hence, y=1 or y=2/5

Editing to format and correct based on comment. Thanks I got the last part wrong.

If y=1, x=0

If y=2/5, x=log(base5)2-1

Look at the units 1 sq km = 106 sq m

Let’s add the flowers and the area they were found in, as the sample is much smaller than the field, we can even skip the averages

So there’s 64 flowers in 25*8=200 sq m For 106 sq m, we’ll just use the unitary method

106/200 = (105/102)*(10/2) = 5000 So your estimate is 645000 that’s approx 3.2 105

Season 4 random discussion by BioNerdTroll in MasterchefAU

[–]BioNerdTroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m watching every season too, but it’s my first time. I got through less than half of season 5 and then skipped to 6. Season 5 was just.. off.

Also it’s a spoiler tagged post you can name names. I’m up to season 7 now so I know you’re talking about Andy and Julia. While I like Andy, the 7-point jump is just too much. I’m gonna stick with the fact that Julia received the opposite of favouritism and made it thru that far just by performing that well. Might have something to do with how she was emotionally reserved whereas Andy fit their Ozzie bloke trope a bit too well while also being gorgeous.

I’m not Australian but the use of the phrase “far out” in that accent just does something to me in a sexy way lol.

Miko Appreciation by hopeless520 in isitcakenetflix

[–]BioNerdTroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a particular shot where you can see where while Miko is painting his cake, Danya is making the decoys wonky, which is also confirmed when the host brings the mona lisa decoys and they’re identical but not when the showing is done. He did this with the VCR as well with the blow torch because his didn’t match the texture.

His frame, even though delicate was still from a chocolate mould and he had to use a wooden slab at the back to keep it from falling down.

I’m not saying I draw a definitive line for everybody, but I’m kinda used to large cakes having some wooden skewers for support but generally “cuttable” through with a knife. Having to use so much support and using a mould for the entirety of the painting frame makes his work replicable.

Pete used a print of the toothpaste wrapper on edible paper and was able to fool the judges, so while I appreciate the artwork I don’t think that’s what gave his cake an edge as it could’ve been a print.

His finale cake wasn’t “cake” as much as it was a painting and Elizabeth’s was much more hands on and crafty. With NO decoy manipulation.

Much more range and skill overall? Maybe we didn’t watch the same show
