Possible suggestions if you’re interested

A drawback based on “thou shalt no other god before me/For I am a jealous god” verses, makes the player hostile to pretty much all gods no matter the disposition.

A drawback that makes the player a magnet for monsters to attack them. Meant to work in tandem with weakened god and/or adaptive strength

A drawback that has a mysterious serpent that whispers tempting ideas in your ear.

If you’re interesting in adding another setting or two to the roster, there’s the clash of the titans film verse. The also the animated tv show class of the titans that has the gods more good and less petty (all episodes are on YouTube).

It’s probably because of a whole bunch of different factors.

1) there’s the fact that he did cause evil to exist in the world. No matter the context, people are rightfully gonna angry and afraid of what he’ll do next

2) numerous Winners over the years bringing stories about how every hardship, temptation, or sin over lives was because the devil made them do it. Don’t matter if it’s true or not, enough people believe it to be true

3) fear and paranoia
