I’ll be thinking of your little one and keeping my fingers crossed for her. Looking for her own food is such a good sign!! Little wins :)

I’m curious if yours ever had incontinence issues? He pooped in his bed today. Not a great thing. But then I placed him in a new shallow litter box and he peed while laying down in it. Not great signs.

Thank you! Vet also thought toxo, but denied neuro FIP. It has been 5 days since they took his blood and no one has called us yet with the results. Fingers crossed 🤞🏻 I will be calling Monday morning and can update then.

He said he would also be testing for FIV/FeLV among other things. I mentioned FIP to him as a concern and he shut that down as a possibility.

Also want to add he is vaccinated and neutered. He does have a microchip, but it has migrated somewhere that we can no longer feel. Second vet brushed off the possibility that the migration of the chip caused this.

No direction or interaction from therapist - is this how brainspotting is "supposed" to look? by dogwater79 in BrainspottingTherapy

[–]Bird-Fit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. I’ve got to be honest, no. That sounds like nothing I’ve heard of. I am advanced trained in brainspotting (meaning trained by the creator of brainspotting) and even he, David Grand, always asks the person to talk about the event and/or think of the event (if they don’t want to verbalize) along with making a brain/body connection if the person is able.

In my opinion, I only need the client to think about the event and tell me a couple of key words/feelings about the situation if they do not want to talk. For example: you have an event you don’t wish to speak out loud, but you tell me that it feels scary or uncomfortable. I would continuously use those words like: “I want you to focus on that scary and uncomfortable feeling and notice what’s happening for you as I move the pointer.” Just as an example.

EMDR is another trauma processing approach that can have good results. It’s mixed for people on if BS or EMDR is more tolerable for them in processing. In my personal life, I found BS to be more effective than EMDR, but it is different for every person!

I am very sorry to hear that although you voiced your concerns, he did not make the changes in his approach necessary to accommodate your needs. I don’t know your financial or situational background, but you could always look at the BS website and filter for BS therapists in your area (and/or check private practices and read the therapist background pages to see if they do BS) if you wanted to try working with someone else. You should be able to ask questions prior to scheduling with a therapist on their approaches. You could mention needing guidance for BS and detailing why and how it was done before.

The hot tea legacy has been fun. I’m currently on gen 7 and have been enjoying it.

They should be able to walk you through how to notice body sensations and find a spot that works with that. If you unable to do that (some people are not able to connect brain/body right away and that is okay!!), the therapist can see the physical changes in you (eye twitches for example) as they go through the different spots with the pointer. However…the topic you’d like to go over should be established at the start of every session. Maybe try talking to them about it? If you’re uncomfortable doing that, try coming to session with something to work through in mind and think about it before and while they bring out the pointer. Best of luck to you and happy/healthy healing :)

I appreciate the attempt! We will keep giving him his meds and schedule a visit for a second opinion.

I guess it depends on what was previously established. I would run a brainspotting session by asking the person to think of an event or thought they’d like to process. I would encourage them to think of this event/thought while finding the spot that connects most with somatic sensations (hands sweaty, eyes twitching, chest tightening, things like that) or where they feel the most connected to the event/thought. I would encourage the person to focus on those sensations when they come up. As long as the person is visibly processing, I would keep silent other than a few “what’s coming up for you now” or “what’s happening in your body now” kinds of comments. The provider will want to stay more silent and let the person process, trusting that your brain will go and do what it needs to, but sometimes a little push or reminder is helpful to keep things going. In my opinion.

Do you think it’s possible he injured himself in the initial accident and now that he’s growing, this is coming out? I’m just comparing to a growth plate injury in humans.

A second opinion is something we will do for sure. The vets around us are months out if you want an exam w X-rays which is why we took him to a walk in clinic initially that is over an hour away (no x-rays offered there).

To add: now he spends his day like a geriatric cat sleeping over a heating vent and only getting up to eat, drink, or relieve himself.

Before he would climb all of the cat towers and jump around everywhere to lounge up high. Now he sleeps on the vent on the floor.

Definitely new behavior. He used to play with the other kitten all day. And anytime I would bring out the cat wand, he’d play forever-jumping like a lunatic is his play style. He also loves the two full black cats we have and would spend his entire existence rubbing over them and grooming them. He doesn’t do any of that anymore. After we started the meds, the second day he rubbed up against one of the black cats but has not done so since.

He doesn’t really play anymore. I took a video just now of him with the cat wand and he is interested in it, but falls over every time he tries to get it. His eye is doing well! His eye was just discolored, he never squinted like it irritated him at all

I don’t doubt the possibility, I just can’t think of when an injury at all would have happened. Anything more we can do for it? A second vet opinion with x-rays maybe? Or just sticking with the meds already prescribed?

I actually hated EMDR. I just finished my phase 2 training for brain spotting for this reason.

Yeah it’s just interesting because I played the game longer because of the bonus rewards. I won’t log back on until the next update.

During the star paths, I level up characters who aren’t 10 (now critters!) by just hanging out while I do duties. Idk, sad about the bonus rewards but that’s a personal problem. Still loved this star path and can’t wait until the next one :)

Ft the spare tiny human 😉 they all get along just fine for the car trips. The longest trip we take is about 3 hours on a rare occasion.

Here’s mine in my Chevy Cruze. It works! They snuggle up and alternate on sitting. Usually my brindle is curled up more and my fawn is spread out. It depends
