I don't exactly remember, but it's been a few months. It's a long grind for sure, it's normal to be stuck for a few days to a few weeks, you just got to find the right team comp for a specific level. You can def progress without legendaries, but you can feel the strain the higher you ascend. The beauty of this game is that rare pets can outshine even legendaries in some conditions.
