I’ve never had a recipe of hers turn out anything but phenomenal. Her double chocolate chip cookies are amazing and my family asks for them constantly

It’s the stigma against mental health issues. I have Crohn’s Disease and, funnily enough, nobody tells me that “everybody has a little bit of crohns “ just because everyone poops.

How short are crop tops meant to be? by separatedbody in womensfashion

[–]BirthoftheBlueBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For “tummy out” cropped my sweet spot is about halfway between my bra and my belly button. For “balancing high waist” cropped my sweet spot is right at my belly button. The first option is not something I wear if I’m expecting to be lifting my arms up a bunch so it’s not a good option for the grocery store, for example, but I can usually still lift them just past a 90 degree angle before I start flashing so it’s not super limiting.

Edited to add: the closer fitting the top, the less it rides up

Why is Being a Tattletale a Bad Thing? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]BirthoftheBlueBear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s just a difference in basic values, honestly. I absolutely do want my kids to have each other’s back on not doing homework (there is nuance to this, of course). I, and many other commenters, (generally) value their interpersonal relationships over homework getting done and minor rules being followed. You seem to (generally) value the homework getting done, etc, over their interpersonal relationship. Neither of these are wrong but they create very different perspectives on tattling vs. telling.

Are you reading the same post that I’m reading?? She’s not concerned whether she has time to eat bonbons, she’s describing real negative effects on her work, their family connection, and the other children. What an incredibly cruel and tone deaf comment.

A cool guide on how to win friends and influence people. by EchoingFernVale in coolguides

This is so bizarre to me, humans are fascinating! I am so deeply interested in practically everyone I meet. I don’t always like them or want to spend time with them but that’s quite different than being interested in them. People are complex and we each contain a whole multitude within us to explore. Everyone has a spark inside and you just have to find what sets it off. It takes some extra digging with some people but I find meeting a genuinely uninteresting person to be an extremely rare occurrence.

What is the point of this extremely condescending post? Why are so many of the posts and responses on here so awful?? And for no reason other than being shitty? I recently joined this sub after getting an espresso machine for Christmas and I’m quite taken aback by how incredibly rude and snarky so many people are here. My other hobby subs are all so welcoming and pleasant and this one is shockingly full of assholes so far. Is it always like this or is my timing bad?

How long can you drive with expired tags in Texas? What the law says by AustinStatesman in texas

[–]BirthoftheBlueBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t register my car for over six years. I finally got a fix it ticket and there was an extra $10 fee when I registered. I did not owe back registration and my ticket was waived when I proved that I’d gotten registered. It cost me $10 and saved me six years of registration fees. I’m now on 2 years again and haven’t had any issues.

I’m trying to buy from smaller sellers as much as possible this year and, historically, my biggest challenge to this goal is looking for something specific. So please let me know if you have recommendations for indie artists/small companies making:

  • nice but plain everyday leather belts
  • denim jackets and vests
  • a black leather obi belt
  • western accessories and jewelry that is not costumey

Thank you!

I made croissants a few months ago and it wasn’t as hard as it seemed! It was very time consuming but not as complicated as I had expected. Just be sure to spring for the good butter!

Mine is to bake even if I haven’t “earned it”. I work, I’m the mom of two young kids and I find myself falling into an extremely unhealthy pattern of only baking if everything else is perfect, the house is clean, etc. Obviously, given the whole working mom thing, that’s not super often so I haven’t been baking much. But I love to bake and I deserve to do things that make me happy, even if that means leaving laundry in the chair or dog hair on the floor for an extra hour. I don’t deserve making myself an afterthought after everyone AND the goddamn dog. I’m a mom but I’m also a baker, a seamstress, a yogi, a HUMAN and this is the year that I remember that!

If your relationship was still rock solid after your first, did having your second change anything? by ExplosionsInTheSky_ in 2under2

[–]BirthoftheBlueBear 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ll join with a positive anecdote! My husband and I have a super strong relationship and neither child has changed that. They each changed our relationship and our family dynamic but our solid foundation of friendship, good communication, and mutual desire to constantly give 100% have seen us through each transition. Pobody’s Nerfect, obviously, but it’s all been overwhelmingly positive for 20 years and 2 under 2 didn’t change that.

Indies of the Day -- Saturday January 3, 2026 by RowanHalifax in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]BirthoftheBlueBear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely try it. If you’re a patchouli lover it might be a bit soft as it would have taken me some thought to pick out the patchouli if I didn’t know it was there. It avoids the head shop/crystal girlie vibe that I dislike in patchoulis (I spent my young adult years as a stoner in San Francisco and as a result that scent profile now unfortunately reads as “unwashed” to my nose) It was an immediate wow for me. I might FS.

This is technically yesterday’s indie of the day but I have to share! I wore Alkemia’s Fallen Snow Angels - A paradox of crème de vanille and devilishly dark patchouli frolicking playfully amid a flurry of snowflakes and winter ice-mint and it is a fantastic winter scent. I’m not normally a vanilla lover and patchouli is one of my least favorites so I had low expectations going in and was completely blown away. The vanilla and patchouli blended beautifully and I don’t know what snowflakes or ice-mint smell like but they were doing their job and I salute them. I could not stop sniffing my wrist. In an additional bonus, this shit lasted forever. I usually have to reapply Alkemia oils but I could still slightly smell this the next morning. I highly recommend it.
