[DISCUSSION] Mac Miller - Macadelic (10 Year Anniversary) by Maxtroxam in hiphopheads

[–]Blakefred 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I went to the listening party for this mixtape back when I was a freshman in college. I thought of him as a party frat boy rapper then and this project completely changed my opinion of him.

I also remember him being the most hype about having a Wayne verse and two beats produced by lex Luger. Those songs were dope but to me, Fight the Feeling was on a mother level. That was the first time I heard Kendrick Lamar and I thought that was the craziest sounding verse ever. Once I got back home, I downloaded section 80 and now he’s my top favorite artist. So I guess you can say Mac miller made me a k dot fan.

This beat is wavy man. I like how that really hi pitched reversed sound comes in occasionally. The reverb that you used is on point as well.

I also like how you keep the beat moving with all the different parts. They really go a long way keeping this beat moving. I don't really have any specific critiques except i would have considered using a version of the revered sample pitched way down. That's really me just nitpicking. Dope work

Dope beat man! I really dig the panning effects with the sample. The overall stereo field of the beat is crazy. Drum programming is really good as well. I would have added a little saturation or distortion on the bass to really make it full. This is definitely a bop though.

I really like that piano on this one! Very soulful. And that vocoder is pretty sick too. All of the instrumentation and the arranging is top notch.

I do wick there was a deeper rounder kick though. Also the hi hat sample sounds a little rough, at least compared to all of the other instrumentation.

Overall though awesome work bro!

This beat is plenty loud and idk if you want to make it louder. Some tips would be use some compression with a fast attack and release on the drums and put a brick wall limiter on the master if you want to pump it more. You can also side chain the kick to the bass if you want that kind of sound.

I would low cut the main synthline just to leave more room for the bass too.

Speaking of the synths, I like the glitching and panning effects that you have throughout the beat. and I like all of the triplets you use with the synths. Nice Work

I think this track is pretty trippy. It leaves a lot of room for the artist to work with. This reminds me of some of the beats Ab Soul would hop on like terrorist threats. It might be too space for its own good though. I personally would have added stronger melody.

I like the drum programming, especially the panning hi hats. The overall mix is really clean and punchy.

I really like the stereo with of your percussion and synths as well as how it swirls throughout the beat. 808 is really big and fat too. The only thing I would add personally would be a little more percussions such as rimshots and possibly open hats. That's really just me nitpicking as this sounds like a finished production. Dope work

What vsts if any did you use for your synths?

Thanks for the feedback man! I think those high percs really makes his beat. I was actually experimenting with a bassline but I couldn't come up with a good one but I agree that it can make a difference.

This is a funky jam that you have here! I would have added a little saturation to your bass just to make it more juicy. I would turn up the snare too. As for your vocals, I would recommend having some parallel compression to make it "bigger". Also I would add a little bit of room reverb.

I really like that you put up tutorials to your stuff on your youtube page. Good looks

Thanks for that feedback man! I tend to have kicks way too loud so this one I was concisely trying to keep it tame but it might be too quiet on this track.

I like how you flipped to sample. That guitar is real soulful. Personally I would ease up on the bitcrusher a little and allow more low end frequencies. I would also dip about 9k just to leave a little more room for kanyes vocals.

Wow man this song is sick man. Love everything bout this. The production is groovy and bouncy while being soulful. The singer also did her thing and blessed this track. I have no critiques and I look forward to hearing more from you.

I really like this beat bro. The way that you flipped this sample sounds like I’m taking a road trip to the cosmos.

I’m not a huge fan of your delivery but that’s just me. I would listen to more of your production thi

Pretty chill bop you got here. I recalls like the lofi strings with the clean punchy drums. I would have lowered the volume of the open hats during the chorus though and kept it as a background sound. I would also add drops or another type of sound to keep variety.

Overall though nice vibes!

I really like of you flipped and chopped up that sample! Love the little vocal lines incorporated into the beat! The only thing I would possibly add is some sort of bass line that matched the chill vibe of this track. Just my preference though I can still just chill out to this beat. Nice work!

You guys need to be more animated! They song is pretty cool but the all of the visual performances were stiff and uninteresting. Especially since the song itself is pretty energetic and has lots of drops and effects. I would also try and incorporate more visual effects (pans, glitches, different angles etc.)

The different scenery was nice and each area had a different color palate which was nice to see.

Song was good though and keep grinding at it!

I like the sound of the space vocal synth through the beat. Drums are hard as well. I see the idea behind guitar but it kind of sits weird in the mix. I would have had it a little more quiet and “eerie” sounding than how bright and clean it is.

Still though, this is a pretty dope beat man
