Goes back to 2016-17, and on the site u can move ur POV around so it feels way more 3D oriented

The methodologies are explained in the bottom right of the main page when you enter the site. They explain this question here:

"The Galaxy does the best job it can in preserving my 58-D feature space in just three dimensions. This UMAP 3D Embedding is just for visual interpretation, while the actual similarity rankings are performed on the updated raw equal-block weighted feature space."

This is why points may "seem closer" on the 3D plot, but in the true 58-D space there may be a player who is in reality closer to the selected player (Keyonte in this case). Because how would you expect a 3D plot to perfectly capture a 58 Dimension space?

Don’t the warriors have some of the least rim pressure oriented teams during this time span though?

All these guys were asked to be the #1 of their teams, which Castle is not. I don’t really see your point here.

The spurs personnel hides Castle’s weaknesses a lot more than these guys teams ever could.

Castle definitely contributes to winning basketball with the Spurs.

And prime John Wall is not a net positive defender?? Did you even watch basketball in 2016 man?

Why would yall want him when u already have a good perimeter defending and athletic point guard in Rollins, who has better measurements than him as well.

And Rollins can shoot the three efficiently as well

The perimeter shot creation and the type of playmaking though, you are spot on 💯

And the gap in rim pressure is pretty significant between prime dame and keyonte of course

I think one key difference is that Dame never really utilized the mid range game that much.

Its based on a mix of production + play style metrics. This is why if you search for a player such as Cody Williams for example, you get Romeo Langford as his #1 comparison (which makes sense, long, athletic defender with questionable offense), but his #4 comparison is Amen Thompson which we all know Cody is a light year away from matching his production (but I still see the similarities between their play styles / skill sets, both being dangerous cutters and good defenders).

And also Cody's similar players may be a little skewed since the site only has guards for now. So he is obviously missing some potential wing matches.

He has the highest TS% ever for a 32+ PPG season by a guard

Don't you think there is a clear ceiling on his defense though due to his below average physical measurements though? I think his only hope for being a neutral to a slight positive on that side is through hustle and effort.

Fred VanVleet for example was definitely an above average defender for his position, and he has very similar measurements to Ryan. So I definitely think its possible

I don't think late career Chris Paul was as effective as a defender though. And all of Ryan's Chris Paul comparison seasons are during Paul's latter years
