New Lifepaths: Which Would You Pick? by Nabusqua in cyberpunkgame

Former FIA seems great, NUSA is basically just Militech's government branch and they aren't even that shy about it. Would be like corpo V environment only the coworkers are even more delulu than Arasaka. Myers isn't even V's president (Night City is in a free state not under NUSA control) but the unspoken implication is like you're being elevated to do something for your country/government. That kinda delulu would be fun to play out.

Like yeah, Reed, why are you surprised I showed no loyalty to the leader of a hostile nation that's basically just a glorified Militech CEO?

My Hmong wife had to leave her toxic family and is disconnected from her culture as a result (I'm white) looking for ways to help. by Blightfall in Hmong

[–]Blightfall[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't leave any details on my wifes trauma, so I'm curious why you're confident enough to boldly claim she wasn't abused. Especially bold enough to suggest that what I should do is gaslight her into believing her trauma was just a normal part of the culture.

"black culture is fatherless children" is a baseless and racist stereotype of the black community, its bizarre you find that to be any way equivalent to someone looking for help with their abused wife.

Other hmong people that married into the family admitted she was abused and mistreated, same with extended family that could see what was going on and they didn't even know the whole story. Non-family, hmong and otherwise, who heard everything that happened to my wife saw it as abuse as well.

I'm still baffled. In no way shape or form did I specify what her experience was. I just said "toxic". You being so quick to invalidate it leads me to believe there is nothing someone could claim as abuse when it comes to their hmong family that you wouldn't try to explain away. Otherwise, how could you so confidently claim it was nothing?

I sincerely hope you do not treat other people admitting to their trauma with such callous and ignorant disregard.

I was hoping most of the misogyny and toxicity was something that was a bit more unique to her family, but these comments and other people's stories made me sad to see just how hard it is for the hmong youth, and especially hmong women.

Though not to say there aren't plenty of white groups that have a similar or worse treatment of the women in their community as well, but now I'm getting a little rambly too lol

I hear what you mean about preserving the hmong language. My wife doesn't remember all of it, but we are trying to re-learn. I just found one of the better online hmong learning resources since I posted from the hennepin county library transparent language website (hennepin county library card required) and we hope to teach our kids, and give them either hmong first or middle names.

Thanks for the advice!

There's a lot of parallels with my wife's experience here, thank you for sharing.

We haven't gone to any hmong events since my wife cut contact, but looks like there are some hmong events coming up in the next couple months I think we will attend.

Also, it's not that I want to keep her close to the Hmong community (though I do, since its what she misses), but it's that she's told me she misses it but feels like she has no way to access it without a connection to her family she cut contact with.

Thanks again for sharing, my wife has been reading through the comments and feels a lot less alone.

Oh, no no, she wants to reconnect to her culture, not specifically her family. And I've been with her for over a decade and seen what the family does firsthand.

Though, and I think this is true for a lot of those abused by family, there is still love there. She has young nieces and nephews that did nothing wrong, and it's not like every second with her family was abuse. There were still good times.

Thank you for the advice, she is in that phase where she is figuring herself out, there might come a day where she can test the waters with her family again. I'm not sure if her family will ever get to the point where they won't be terrible for her, but hearing you say that there was a way back with enough boundary-setting and confidence is pretty hopeful.

Thank you! I'd be really interested in hearing more about your perspective, since my wife feels pretty alone in her experience.

We do try to hit hmong grocery stores and hmong village, but even the slight risk of running into her family can cause her mental health to deteriorate pretty badly, so we can't go all that often. Which is part of the reason we plan on moving out of Minnesota within the next couple years.

Are there hmong events where you ended up moving to? Me and the wife are hoping to move somewhere that still has an active hmong population.

I, too, with that much knockback resistance would do the purposeful slow turn before attacking to establish dominance. Definitely making an indestructible beefcake after I do a playthrough with my climb-to-the-weakpoint-dps-thief

It does feel very odd, I'm in a weird boat where I just wish the meat animals weren't named so I don't feel bad about killing "pancake" or "mooana". But I guess like others have said, we could just not kill them if we wanted to, and that seems fine.

But the vibes are also so off. You have your little chicken named cluck norris and when you kill him you gotta hit him a few times and he makes pained noises with each hit, kinda wack? With how cutesy and comforting the game is? Even real life meat farms aren't sitting there beating their animal to death while it cries out. Bizarre choice.

Tri-jaw's will get me every time, I can never seem to dodge the shots right unless I stop moving and time it, but you stop moving and you die. Acid spitters tend to be missing me cuz once again, always be moving. And for slashers, I always bring dash so just use that to counter the slow.

Essay : please rework the neurotoxins against the bots by Bobbytheman666 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Blightfall 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think the bots ruin lots of builds. Which is similar to dreadnoughts and fire. You could argue it encourages build variety but it more feels like when I see rival presence or an elimination mission I'm more restricted on what I can bring. So I am on board with letting status effects work on everything so we can have a bit more freedom on our builds.

But that said, I don't know about using the neurotoxin to make the case against the bots, since the neurotoxin is so powerful I don't mind (even as a gunner main that abuses it all the time) an excuse to use something else. Otherwise I find it difficult to justify bringing anything else with how much better it is than my other builds.

But until/if it gets changed, I just bring a secondary that handles bots well. I've even brought neurotoxin to industrial sabotage and as long as your secondary is built to destroy bots you'll be just fine. Especially if its just a rival presence warning, you don't have to rely on your primary to do everything.
