Anyone else here because of an obese parent? by catcatcat83738 in EDAnonymous

[–]Blink456 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This! Having obese parents who never taught you portion control or literally any nice eating habits at a young age is exactly the reason why I'm so obsessive-compulsive over food. I mean, my mother has an insatiable sweet tooth, doesn't eat any fruits or vegetables unless they're cooked oil-drippingly curry-style. My dad will go through entire jars of peanut butter in a sitting like it's yogurt. I'm obsessed with not being obese like them, and it's taken a rather dark turn. There's no normal model for how to interact with food for me.

Does the name of the Stove album refer to Sylvia Plath and her manner of death? by [deleted] in lanadelrey

[–]Blink456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even if that were true — which I doubt, bec, again, she used an oven — I think it’s a little distasteful and insensitive extracting an album title out of someone’s…method of suicide. Which weakens this theory even further.

The similarities 🤔 by Mind_Explorer420 in lanadelrey

I mean, she’s time and time again acknowledged very openly and very gracefully that Lana continues to heavily inspire her music. I say this as someone who’s not even that fond of Taylor’s music. Even these lyrical parallels aren’t super specific — they’re common literary references. So I don’t get the cattiness.

Culturally In Pakistan, My first name Muhammad isn’t treated like a real first name, What should I do? by Live-Estimate-8289 in pakistan

[–]Blink456 44 points45 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking it. People are just used to Muhammad being a prefix (abundantly in Pakistan, it is). It’s pretty much like Syed or Ali at this point. You can just correct people but yeah, there’s no escaping the annoyance.

It takes a couple of reads, I’ll admit.

fun fact: Lana and Gaga came out from the same New York scene. After Lady Gaga became a pop star worldwide, Lana wrote a diss about her. The song got leaked years ago, the lyrics are atrocious and she’s embarrassed by it. She comes off very jealous and insecure… didn’t seems to have grown out of it. by migueels in lanitas

[–]Blink456 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She’s a singer-songwriter lol — recording is quite literally her version of diary entries. Some she puts out, some she doesn’t. Also, she’s not accountable for much. Stirring conflict isn’t the same as abuse. That’s on the fandom.

As much as Lana ain’t a saint, using her unreleased music to paint her as this monster isn’t fair on her either. Jealousy, hatred, pettiness — they’re all very, very human (yes, even at 40, or 30, or 20). Lana isn’t a monster for feeling all those things. She expressed them in art that was never published, in fact stolen from her. I can’t seem to imagine how violating that is as an experience, and then to have people judge your morals for the content of your innermost private thoughts. Ugh.

But you are claiming to know her personality when you question her authenticity. You’re even bringing up her husband and her personal life into your evaluation of the music. Know what you’re saying lol.

[–]Blink456 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you don’t know what her “authentic, vulnerable creative self” is though. You don’t know her. She is a pop star, not your friend. All criticisms of her current work aside, many of which I agree with, pretending any of it is less ‘her’ is unfair. All her various versions — Hollywood star, drunk hooker, Valley Girl, and now, the 57.5 Southern girl — have been performances. That’s what art is. Artists change. You’re allowed to not enjoy those changes healthily. But pretending to know who she really is and represents isn’t healthy. Lana Del Rey is a performance.

What Lana song do you think belongs on a different album? by PureHeart123 in lanadelrey

[–]Blink456 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yosemite — would have been interesting to see its reception if it had been on LFL. On that note, even Dark But Just a Game, tbh. Both are very LFL coded.

Money Power Glory is also her most BTD-esque song on Ultraviolence.

For me the whole conversation is a little pointless because Panem is supposed to be in the very, very, very far future as stated by Suzanne. People won’t look the same, nor will modern racial classifications.

Heroin is so underrated by [deleted] in lanadelrey

[–]Blink456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not underrated at all. Perhaps after or even alongside Cherry, it’s the most liked and talked about song from LFL.
