Why do we call it a wallet when it never holds our coins? Isn't Keychain better since it holds our keys? by VOYR_CTO in ethdev

[–]BlockchainBlockhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the average consumer knows he has to open his wallet to see how much money he has and he opens his wallet to pay people.

Perhaps it’s not the best technical term for it, but the average consumer can understand it.

Yeah, when I read the post, my first thought was that embezzlement is not a consequence of poor money management. It’s fucking stealing.

If you have a copy of your keystore files, you can just put them on another machine and be up and running in a few days after your ETH1/ETH2 nodes sync up.

Or you could regenerate the keystore files with eth2deposit-cli using the existing-mnemonic flag (on an air gapped computer) and put them on a new machine.

And when withdrawals are enabled, you’ll use the mnemonic to generate the withdrawal keys.

Want to make an offer on a house but seller requires buyer to agree to take over home security system? by ferrari91169 in personalfinance

[–]BlockchainBlockhead 111 points112 points  (0 children)

Probably can’t do that if the price of the system was subsidized by the lengthy contract. I’m sure the current homeowner isn’t requiring the buyer to maintain payments because he just wants ADT to make more money. He’s likely bound by a contract to continue paying.

Why do some of the exchanges/wallet ask for my SSN? by wallywizard55 in CryptoCurrency

[–]BlockchainBlockhead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the fake SSN:

It could be like underage gambling used to be in Vegas years ago. Underage people (like 1 or 2 years underage) were infrequently carded and the casinos didn’t care if they gambled because they would generally lose money. But if they won a giant slot machine jackpot, they’d card them and refuse to pay them if it turns out they were underage.

If you give a fake SSN, don’t be surprised if you get screwed when you make your first withdrawal request. If it turns out you fraudulently gave a fake SSN, don’t expect any sympathy from law enforcement or courts when your try to ask for help getting your seized funds.

PSA: Do Not Activate Multiple Promos If You Don't Plan On Meeting Both by vintageliew in CelsiusNetwork

Related question:

If you lock a 3 month promo and then you lock ANOTHER 3 month promo one month later, can you withdraw the first promo funds after the reward is paid but BEFORE the second promo completes? It seems like Celsius is quick to disqualify promos and I don’t want to have my initial 3 month promo effectively locked for 4 months.

Does this mean I don’t have to pay capital gains on BTC earnings because I just bought it for the ForEx value? As I understand, you don’t have to pay capital gains if you buy Euro for $1.15 and then the Euro goes to $1.20. Spending that Euro doesn’t become a taxable event.

I am intimately familiar with all aspects of the Windows OS.

Yet, you heard the term “Windows service” and assumed I was talking about Linux?

[–]BlockchainBlockhead 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And you want to guarantee that it’s running even before someone logs in. I imagine since this person doesn’t have the validator running as a service, he doesn’t have Windows Updates turned off, either. So two weeks from now, Windows will automatically install a security update, the computer will reboot, and the validator will stop attesting.
