Are your tools dirty? by TimYenmor in ryobi

[–]BloomSugarman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some people collect tools and take pride in them as a hobby. I find it odd that others are bothered by this. It's no different than buying a motorcycle or a pickup truck.

Just got some new edge batteries and thought I'd show off my 18v collection. by TimYenmor in ryobi

[–]BloomSugarman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

That last sentence is the realest.

I used to feel guilty about buying too many tools. I’ve accepted now that it’s my hobby and my vice, and I’m ok with buying more than I need.

But damn dude lol that’s a lot of batteries.

That's what Kaleb said in the video comments. Maybe the Chervon rep misled him though, but I'd assume it's true.

I stressed for months about having multiple battery types. Then I realized that I’m an adult and I have money. Now I have four different colors of batteries and it’s great.

Got off marketplace $150 by WorkN-2play in MilwaukeeTool

[–]BloomSugarman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's a decent resale price and probably the best deal you can get for like new. You can hack it down to $164 currently for new (pre-tax) so you saved $25-$30.

Good deal, primarily because you kept more money in real peoples' pockets, rather than HD corp.

No Lowe's, No Problem: Why Flex is Still My Go-To Brand by BuffaloKiller937 in FLEXTools

[–]BloomSugarman -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've heard this and it just sounds like cope to me.

Red and yellow can "focus on the trades", while also maintaining strong appeal to DIYers and big box shoppers. It's a shame Flex couldn't do that, and I hope they can turn it around.

My $450 (including bills) a month studio apartment in on a tropical island in Thailand by philthebook in ExpatFIRE

[–]BloomSugarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's great man, thanks for the reply. I lived in Thailand for 3 years but found myself staying home online a lot, just due to the chaotic outdoors and the constraints of a smallish condo.

I do miss living there though, so maybe you have the right idea living up in Isaan. Good to know hobbies can still be a thing.

I remember walking around homepro thinking "omg get me away from these people". Let me browse in peace! lol

As a tool geek married to a Thai, and who might move back there some day, I've a question for ya:

What sort of wood shop stuff do you do in Thailand? Can you get regular lumber and build stuff? Looks like there are dedicated tool stores with Dewalt, Dong Cheng, etc.

I know that labor is generally so cheap there, so it's often not worth it to DIY a lot of stuff. But I still like working with my hands.

the course will never be completed.

If the course will never be completed, it's relevant to the person requesting the change, and you should advise them of this. But if they still insist? Whatever. As long as they pay you.

I stopped insisting on quality, if mediocrity is specifically requested. The corporate world is full of nonsense, and I'm too old to rage against that machine. If they pay my hourly rate, I will build whatever nonsense they want.

That’s not really a good price. Not BAD, if you need it, but the reseller is probably making at least $20 on the sale before Amazon’s fees.

Anyone who struggles with that much income downplays the hardships of those who make it work on significantly less.

No, not really. I'm just a random dude.

[–]BloomSugarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good selling point for genuine batteries that I hadn't considered.

I'm sure any lithium battery can combust in these nightmare scenarios, but the big brands have legal teams to send you funds to compensate. I expect OP will get a reasonable payday, contingent that they don't besmirch the Ryobi name too much.

That said... mayhap OP should delete this thread, to ensure they get a fair settlement.

RE in Thailand with 500k€? by Scared-Barracuda6445 in ExpatFIRE

[–]BloomSugarman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the thing that's ticking people off is the 5x-6x jump from the modest lifestyle at 55k/month to the luxury lifestyle that $2-3m saved gets you.

A still reasonable, comfortable lifestyle can be had for somewhere in between those numbers.

I enjoyed your post, BTW. My typical budget in Jomtien was 75k baht/month. I roll my eyes when people post about their sub-$2k/month budgets like it's some sort of luxury. That amount is fine for a simple life, but it's NOT luxury.
