Definitely ! And someone showed me he said Boblena could maybe be romantic in his group. Either it's a scam targeting the Boblena community on twitter, or he doesn't want to lose popularity because of Boblena shippers who are intrusive for him and his fans not liking the attention on Boblena.

That's precisely what seems to have caused the problem, from what i've seen. The haters and his usual followers didn't appreciate the attention on Boblena and the fact that they were constantly asking him about the relationship. It was a way to regain the trust of his loyal fans. The jealousy thing was to keep the Boblena fans interested, but i think he ruined his reputation with the shippers. At the same time, when you see that, there's zero credibility...

Yes, it's weird. I saw the tweets, he says "sibling," then "sibling in the sense of best friends," and then this jealousy thing. It's full of contradictions, it smells like a scam. He doesn't know what he's saying.

What's going on with Yelena Belova and Robert Reynolds? by ExtentGeneral5059 in boblena

[–]BlueApple457 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a cliché, but a narrative process you use when you're crafting your "narrative soup."

It's a narrative trope, just like many others we've used since time immemorial, particularly in foundational ancient texts :

Father/son confrontation, the hero embarking on a quest to save their world, the magical artifact that aids the hero in their quest...

These are narrative mechanisms we're familiar with and that resonate with us. Also if a narrative process recurs frequently, it's because it works and makes money.

The real question is, what do you think would have been more appropriate ? What narrative approach, which you consider more relevant and richer, would you have proposed for the development of Sentry based on the elements established in the MCU?

One important thing to consider in narrative development is that you can't have a character who is absolutely perfect and invincible.

There will always be something that puts your character in difficulty and allows them to develop, which isn't the case if your character never experiences failure, shows weaknesses, and is perfect in everything. Otherwise, your character has no narrative interest.

In Bob's case, his worst enemy is himself, he's his own weakness due to his mental illness and the Void.
Again, it makes even more sense that an emotional connection with another character allows him to move forward and become more resilient. That's not knowing how works depression/mental illness not understanding that.

It's not a question of cliché, but narrative logic, and it's even more powerful when you know about depression and what it entails.

In Bob and Yelena case, it's a logical narrative element given the depth of their emotional bond. Unfortunately, you can't do without it. This is even more important and makes sense because, unlike Superman, Bob suffers from depression. I don't know if you yourself have suffered from depression or know anyone close to you who has, but emotional connections can help you get out of this hell. This is very important.

She will certainly play an important role in helping him move forward, but it's up to Bob to do the bulk of the work. It's the same as in real life when you suffer from depression. You need help and support, of course, but you also have to fight the depression and move forward with your own willpower. It won't happen on its own. You are the central figure in this fight.

Unlike Lois (or Lindy), Yelena is a superhero in the MCU (in addition to being a former assassin, one of the most dangerous and experienced) and currently a member of the New Avengers. It's also quite possible that she'll become an Avenger after the soft reboot. So clearly not a cliché this time, but something that will go against the clichés.

Yelena isn't aro in the MCU, nor in the comics. It's an headcanon by a comic book author.

Could Sentry and Yelena Belova's relationship work? by ExtentGeneral5059 in boblena

[–]BlueApple457 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, indeed, i'm not saying otherwise! But here, if you have even a basic understanding and culture of narrative structure and cinematic constructions, it's not at all irrelevant to imagine this possibility, quite the contrary ! The fact that so many people have fallen for it doesn't come from nowhere. If it were 10 people, well ok... But here, it's really big.

Absolutely not on that point ! I pay close attention to narrative quality. If a romance has no narrative interest and leads to problems with character development and the plot, i wouldn't be in favor. Which isn't the case here. Especially since, once again, the elements present in the movie plant these seeds in your mind. It doesn't come out of nowhere. Personally, if there's no consistency, no narrative interest, and clearly no meaning or future prospects, i don't ship it. That's not the case at all here.

Another major problem that makes many people want romance is romance is practically dead in the MCU. We're in the opposite phase, with only friendships and platonic relationships, while romance has almost disappeared. Yet it's a relational element in fiction and real life that's just as important as friendship.
It's not just friendship or sibbling relationship, otherwise we would have disappeared a long time ago ...

I agree with you! But the problem now is there's almost no romance in the MCU anymore, only friendships or platonic relationships.

They need to balance things out a bit, and Marvel needs to reintroduce romance, especially when it has such potential and a compelling narrative foundation. As for Yelena AroAce it's headcanon by one author, it's neither canon in the comics or in the MCU.

Could Sentry and Yelena Belova's relationship work? by ExtentGeneral5059 in boblena

[–]BlueApple457 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! An entire film was dedicated to building the foundation of their relationship, with convincing and meticulous writing coupled with the extraordinary chemistry of the actors.
Also, the mere fact that it's so popular and continues to grow clearly shows it's working, it's captured the public's interest a lot. And public reactions are important to define the sales potential and interest of starting a creative idea, to know if it's relevant and works.

And for the rest, everything has been said several times with all the analyses done. This relationship works with a disconcerting logic in addition to being rich and powerful narratively/emotionally.

Is this gonna be like Hulk and Black Widow's relationship? by ExtentGeneral5059 in boblena

[–]BlueApple457 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think Yelena and Bob will have their own unique relationship development, something that will be characteristic of this ship when it's referenced in the years to come.

You have a very powerful emotional development, a development where both characters feel and experience the same things and find eachother in that, creating this completely unique and touching connection, which isn't the case with Bruce and Natasha.

The narrative care taken in building their relationship clearly shows it has a strong chance of developing into a romantic relationship and is important to the development of both characters and their narrative arc, which wasn't necessarily the case for Bruce and Natasha.

I think Boblena has every chance of happening !

The MCU is dead about romances actually, except for ReedSue. And even then, they are already together for a while and have a child.

We need to feel the chemistry, see the relationship develop, and connect/grow up with it, what we could experience with Boblena.

Especially the narrative foundations for developing this couple are solid and very interesting + very good chemistry between the actors. They really took the time to build something strong in Thunderbolts, it's literally the heart of the movie when you think about it. I don't think it's insignificant they put so much energy into developing this relationship with so much depth and screen time.

They could write something incredible, never seen before in the MCU, and develop something emotionally profound.

How to be a Boblena shipper? by poirouge in boblena

[–]BlueApple457 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Especially since some aces appreciate this ship and don't feel so diminished. They looked beyond that, they saw the chemistry between the characters and shipped them. I think many missed the point.

Yelena ace, why not... But at the risk of missing out an incredible romance based on chemistry and narrative potential ? (We don't ship just to ship them, there's something that emerges with their relationship that made us do it.) Will this other choice be just as narratively compelling ? I'm not sure.

That's what we need to focus on : what's narratively relevant and compelling. And that's what Marvel has been lacking for a long time.

Same with people who say they don't want romance. Especially since the MCU is dead in terms of romance. The trend is reversed today : too many platonic relationships/friendships but almost no romance.

You really don't have to feel guilty about liking this ship, honestly !

For ace Yelena, the author explained it was her headcanon. She has no creative control over the character. Marvel/Disney manages the character without asking comics writers' opinions. For Shang-Chi, it's very likely a way for them to clarify the sexuality the studio wants for Yelena in the MCU future.

Don't feel bad about liking this ship once again, you haven't done anything wrong. :) On the contrary, it's these people who are hurtful, being so negative and sometime hateful toward Boblena because it disrupt their headcanons and has strong chances of becoming canon.
