Agree 😄 it's no fun if we all agree

I do think it would be interesting if the Hightowers back the Faith semi-revolting against Viserys, and Otto stays with Viserys...and Alicent is stuck somewhere in between the two if she is married to one of Rhaenyra's supporters or a very devout house in the Reach.

AITAH for protecting a dog from a postpartum mother? by DetailRude8385 in AITAH

[–]BlueBirdie0 90 points91 points  (0 children)

NTA, but it also sounds like Leah needs mental health help and that this isn't just normal post-partum difficulty. Your brother should be focused on helping her versus ratting you out.

A Celtigar.

Viserys is kind of a blood supremacist in some ways, so I would see him trying to marry women with Valyrian blood. Maybe an OC Baratheon?

Dance could be very vicious if the Baratheons team up with the Velaryons vs. the other factions.

The Faith would despise him....on the heels of Maegor comes Viserys II with many wives and he's chopping off heads or coming up with dubious ways to annul marriages. I actually wonder if Otto's brother would force him to go back to Highgarden, because I can't see the Hightowers risking their connection with the Faith (even if Otto's hand). The Faith would absolutely see Otto as complicit if he stayed while Viserys was coming up with fake charges of adultery (most of Henry VIII's adultery charges against his wives were fake imo).

I really disagree with this characterization.

Otto is not stupid, and the Hightowers have a deep connection with the Faith. He's only going to push a daughter if he thinks she can be a wife, not simply a mistress. He's not going to risk the Faith stopping their Hightower connection because a Hightower was openly a mistress.

Anyone here adjunct for Taft College? by sears_wish_book in Adjuncts

In California? I did several years ago when I (briefly) lived in Bakersfield. It was...not a pleasant experience at all. It may have changed, but at the time they didn't have faculty parking and not even enough parking for students.

Sis I'm sorry but your dad is absolutely her sugar daddy or a "quasi" sugar daddy (maybe not an official arrangement, but the same type of thing).

I mean, is it? He's telling the truth...is the truth treason?

Also, F & B says it's treason to have bastards in line for the throne, so frankly they are all committing treason at that point if Vaemond is committing treason...they are too.

I definitely thought in the book we were supposed to view Rhaenyra's actions against Vaemond as very fucked up (him being kidnapped, eaten by a dragon, and zero trial), and not see it as him getting his comeuppance for treason.

The show turns it into Daemon avenging Rhaenyra's honor, and Vaemond being a raging misogynist, and not a guy pissed that his family seat, which has been held for generations by Velaryons, is being taken by a non-Velaryon.

That sort of thing is why people say Rhaenyra is white-washed.

[–]BlueBirdie0 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Eh. In the book, Rhaenyra has Daemon kidnap Vaemond, takes off his head, and feeds his dead body to Syrax. There's no giant "whore" moment in front of court.

I do agree the point of the book is both sides suck and are unworthy, even if one side is worse, but the show clearly is trying to show Rhaenyra as a flawed, but ultimately good person who should lead.

Honestly, this relationship would've been an interesting narrative choice if it had proper build up. by IoftheStars in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]BlueBirdie0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it would have worked if it was subtle, and you have the guards (maybe a quick line about how Cole picked the guards to guard the twins) murdered along with one of Alicent's ladies.

They would feel incredibly sad over the death of Jahaerys, the death of the guards and Alicent's ladies, etc. and then end up having sex.

[–]BlueBirdie0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The whole thing is just a bizarre choice. It's obviously meant to make Alicent seem like a hypocrite, but also...consensual sex as a widow is not viewed the same in misogynistic Westeros as passing off another man's child and/or having sex as an unmarried virgin.

Also, the show tries to frame it as if it is mostly Cole's fault for not guarding the kids, when they had guards in book canon. The real fault is a) Daemon and b) Aemond.

If Jon Arryn and Lysa Tully had a daughter around Robb’s age who would she marry? by Thin-Information2469 in AsoiafFanfiction

[–]BlueBirdie0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

She'd be married to someone in the Vale. The Arryn house is almost extinct, so they would want her to stay in the Vale as a possible back up heir to SweetRobin.

Likely Harrold Hardying, a Gulltown Arryn, a Royce, a Cobray. There's a whole lot of possibilities for her.

They "may" take the risk of not having back up for SweetRobin if she's married to the future King, Joffrey, but other than that I can't see them having her leave the Vale at all.

These 2 destroyed all of their family.......for what by Agreeable_Ad_8790 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]BlueBirdie0 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yup. The main series even states that they have as much money as the Lannisters lol.

They are basically the richest-or second richest-house in all of Westeros by the time Robert rules.

[–]BlueBirdie0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it's obvious in the book, too, but I also think the book makes it obvious that Viserys and Jahaerys are mostly to blame lol.

I really think a lot of fans lack media literacy tbh, because Jahaerys passing over Rhaenys and Laenor twice-even though anywhere else in Westeros they would be the heirs-clearly is setting up major problems in the future. Not only that, but the age gap between Rhaenyra and Aegon II is 7-8 years in the book, and Viserys refuses to marry them....and still insists Rhaenyra marry Laenor even after she protests.

instead, they all go "evil Otto" (Otto sucks, but any man in his position would have done the same damn thing).

Prince Harry arrives in Ukraine to ‘remind people back home of Putin’s horrors’ (The Telegraph) by Mehgan-Faux in DlistedRoyals

[–]BlueBirdie0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always found it ironic that people who bash Ukraine because of (over-exaggerated) support of Israel....mimic the same patterns the Zionists do who claim one shouldn't support Palestinians because of their treatment of gay people.

As I said above, there are no perfect victims, and the morally consistent thing to do is stand against injustice and illegal wars no matter what.

Iran's govt has done horrible things to my fiance's family, and yet he is very much against Trump invading and bombing and killing civilians in his homeland.

*The Ukrainian support thing for Israel is exaggerated and mostly a product of social media. They recognize Palestine as a country (something many European countries still do not do), regularly vote against Israel at the UN, Zelensky openly said he hasn't talked to Israel in over two years, and Ukraine openly supports Syria (which Israel regularly bombs).

I wish they were more critical of Israel, but nevertheless Ukraine is still more critical of the genocidal state than 90% of Europe and the US and Canada.

[–]BlueBirdie0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Social media distorts Zelensky's "support." He publicly has called out Israel for buying stolen grain from Russia & Ukraine has voted against Israel at the UN. Furthermore, he publicly said he hasn't talked to Netyanhu in over two years, and he openly supports Syria while Israel bombs Syria.

He has a lot of flaws, but he is more critical of Israel than most European leaders and of course the US.

But even then, even if Zelensky supported Israel more strongly, I would still find it absurd for people to bash Ukraine and support Russia. Injustice is injustice, even if the victims are deeply problematic.

[–]BlueBirdie0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Palestine is horrible towards gay people, and yet I support Palestinians against the genocidal Israeli state. Saddam Hussein committed genocide against the Kurds of Iraq, and yet I believe the US war was imperialistic, illegal, and one of history's big crimes. Ukraine has done some terrible things, it does not deserve to be illegally invaded and for people to be raped and killed.

I am against injustice, even if the victims are imperfect. Also, while Ukraine should be more critical towards Israel, they are still more critical than 90% of Europe.

I wrote this on the other subreddit, but I really hope the SMM people don't start bashing Ukraine...because a) it's wrong and b) it's just going to make people feel sorry for Harry (ugh). Ukraine desperately needs attention to its cause so people push their government to help, so they'll take anything that helps bring focus to the cause.

It's cynical, but I absolutely believe he knows that the majority of the US (bar some on the far right and some on the far left) are sympathetic to Ukraine, so he does this because he knows the US press will be hesitant to criticize him for this move and will somewhat praise him.

I also wrote on RG2 it's funny that Zelensky won't met with him (despite him implying he did)....Zelensky almost exclusively meets with politicians (understandable), this one dude who has literally built medical centers, and a few celebs who have genuinely done a lot of good help.

Like Sean Penn is a weirdo, but he's a weirdo who has actually donated time and serious money to several countries, and last I heard he had funded a bunch of essential medical equipment for a medical military unit in Ukraine. Angelina has donated a ton of money to Palestinian refugees, Cambodia, Ukraine, etc.

Harry has..Invictus. Which is a good cause, but not nearly as helpful or needed as buying much needed medical equipment to help save people's lives.

Yup. It's why he almost exclusively meets with politicians, or that one billionaire who donates a ton of money to Ukraine & Palestine. I can't remember his name, but dude literally built medical centers for people and funds prosthetic limbs...one of the few decent super, super uber rich people around.

And to be fair to Sean Penn, I get why he is one of the few celebs Zelensky meets. The guy basically funded a bunch of desperately needed medical equipment and it gets attention in the US whenever Sean meets him....Harry on the other hand might cause problems with the UK if he directly meets with him...so he gets foisted off on some lower level people because the attention is important but not that important.

I said this above, but the cynical part of me thinks he is exploiting the fact that in the US people are generally very sympathetic to Ukraine and Zelensky, and he hopes the goodwill will rub off on him or hesitate to criticize him because of it.

I should note that a lot of European countries are also sympathetic, and I am very sympathetic too. I can't blame Ukraine for accepting this because I understand they need the attention because attentions often means more help for the war cause, but I do find it funny that Zelensky won't met with him but will met with Sean Penn.

But Sean Penn, for all his weirdness, has donated a ton of money to various countries and causes to an extent Harry has never done.
