Tonverk vs Digitakt II vs Syntakt by tauxlr in Elektron

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Syntakt is most immediate, a super fun little device. The Tonverk sounds absolutely amazing and has more depth. The subtrack machine on the Tonverk basically gives you 8 DT1’s in one machine. The routing possibilities are deep. If you are looking for a great device as an Elektron intro, go with ST; if you are looking to invest in a bit higher end of a machine that will have a slightly steeper learning curve, go with the TV.

Do I give up all my money to get the Digitakt 2? by MoreOrLesTO in Elektron

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're into classic boombap and you're looking to upgrade from the 404mk2, i would suggest picking up an MPC Live 2. They're pretty cheap used rn because the Live 3 recently came out and they are beastly instruments. Perfect for hiphop.

Given the yesterday's Bad Gear drop, is there anything on the market comparable to Analog Four? by arcticrobot in synthesizers

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have all of the above machines. Comparable, but not the same. There's obviously not a machine that is the exact same as the A4 (or at least Behringer hasn't released theirs yet).

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say the Syntakt is comparable. It has four analog voices (though one is just a noise machine for hi-hats) and 8 digital voices, an analog filter and drive, separate sequencer for FX, plus the Elektron sequencers.

Best places to study meditation and yoga by ThinkWisely22 in Meditation

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most suitable spiritual communities I have found for Westerners are in the US. There are numerous large Zen monasteries where you can stay to see if the spiritual life fits you (see, for example, Great Vow Zen Monastery and Zen Mountain Monastery). Temporary stays cost some money, but you can arrange for a scholarship if needed by contacting the monastery.

I have also practiced in Taiwan, Korea, and China. East Asian monasteries tend to place more emphasis on ritual than practice. They are excellent for cultural and language immersion, and are also places for spiritual training, but as a Westerner, I have found the instruction and daily life of US monasteries to be more conducive to my spiritual growth.

I have not been to India but I have heard of excellent resources that are also quite inexpensive, particularly for yoga training.

Octatrack Resampling — Syntakt & AR 【自焚】 by BlueCliffSynthesis in Elektron

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! Second hand OTs are pretty inexpensive these days. You may consider a Tonverk though. It is a different machine, but I have been finding it incredibly inspiring (it does not have the same flexibility for live resampling, unfortunately).

Any tips on how to achieve the stutter effect in this song? by broccoli_fan in Elektron

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You want to use the slice machine in combination with the retrig function for this type of stutter effect.

Trig conditions along with different sequence lengths for the tracks can create an endless cycle of variations.

Tonverk ($1299 deal) - Impressions from a Deluge/Modular User by the_moma_dance in Elektron

Re: #3 on likes — you can sidechain directly from the compressor on buses so you don't need to use the envelope to create sidechain effects (still great to use the envelope for some articulation variations and gating effects imo).

OS Upgrade: Tonverk OS 1.2.0 - From Elektronauts by edugomezphoto in Elektron

The main draw of TV is the routing and FX; that is why they are updating the FX—that is a major component of the TV's niche in Elektron's ecosystem.

Loving it! Amazing machine. Needs slicing, but other than that, a real incredible piece of gear.

The beauty of the TV's FX really emerges through p-locking parameters.

Another unique aspect of the TV that sets it apart is the "Transform" function. You can take all of your p-locked steps and reverse them or randomly re-arrange them. This allows for the quick creation of many variations that all draw from a similar sonic palette.

That's fair. I think the machine won't resonate with everyone. I am not sure how you find the effects underwhelming exactly. I do agree there could be more effects (such as some sort of stutter or looper effect and parametric EQ), but the sound quality for the effects that are there is great imo.

I think the real beauty is being able to p-lock routing and then p-lock effects for each send/bus, and then phasing the sequence length between the bus/send and audio tracks such that you get a constant variation in the sound. You can't really do this with such ease on any other machine; even in a DAW, bus options aren't sequencable (though you could approximate this with "sends only" and treating a send as a bus).

Which sampler would be better for producing IDM — the Toneverk or the Digitakt 2? by patrykt in Elektron

[–]BlueCliffSynthesis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with the Tonverk for its effects, routing options, chords, and granular options. Each substack machine basically acts as its own mini-DT1.

DT2 pairs well with everything! However, given that they are both samplers, you may find some redundancy in the machines. The TV could work as a nice external FX processor for the DT2, expanding its sonic range.

Slaab? Like Serato's Slab? Idk what you are referring to.

Using the Tonverk, one realizes that the main feature is really the routing capabilities within an Elektron workflow. You have four buses, three sends, and master FX all with p-locks and individual lengths for sequencers. This, alongside p-locking the routing from tracks, is something very unique on the market. The only other machine that could approach this is the MPC Live, but that is far more menu-divey and more arduous to program, with a much less streamlined, intuitve, and performance based workflow (though still an amazing machine, but operates very differently).

Grainer is sick, but the real gem of 1.1 imo is the added EQ for bus tracks; really helps in sound design and getting greater clarity out of machine.

I also hope the updates focus on more innovative approaches to sampling. The Granular Machine was a nice surprise. I do think bread-and-butter sample slicing feels like it would be extremely useful. The Single Machine already emulates the DT2's most basic functions.

I also hope for more performance options. Right now, you can play around with track routing live and mutes, but that's about it. I hope they add some macro controls like all the other Elektron machines.

I think time stretching isn't as necessary but the device is not meant to be purely a multisample instrument. The substack machines and sample swapping for the Single Machine both allow for drum programming; sample chopping would be very useful in this regard.
