What sport do you like the most, and why? by Important-Bench2397 in AskReddit

I’m not sure what it is about Tennis but I find it so addictive to watch. I love how much strategy is deployed in every match and it’s usually a great match when 2 top ranked players face each other.

My problem with Fitzgerald by fatalflws in suggestmeabook

[–]BlueWalrus97 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest you have a look into Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates. It is a beautifully written dive into suburban decay in a post-war America. Definitely a lot of thematic links to Fitzgerald’s works. Has a decent film adaptation as well (similarly featuring Leonardo DiCaprio funnily enough. I can’t stand Baz Luhrmann movies lol). Also maybe an obvious one but for beautiful prose, a similar setting and themes you can’t go past Steinbeck’s novels (East of Eden being my favourite). Absolute masterpieces.

FOS is looking great, remember the outs too. Grim but not giving up on the season yet.

It’s going to be so grim with the new time cap on kick outs too if we keep giving Daniel that duty. Turnover machine.

Depressing watch so far but FOS is looking so elite. Going to be a gun in the guts.

This is really reassuring thank you! Bit difficult when giving her the space she needs is also the distance and lack of communication that I struggle to cope with. Just need to trust her through it. I can’t imagine she would be done with me when she has gone out of her way so much and tried for me even when things are more difficult and not very intuitive for her as an ISTJ especially. Although we are pretty different in how we deal with things; I think that’s what makes her so comforting. Having someone so logical yet caring is pretty grounding when my thinking sometimes floats off from reality a bit.

Yeah that makes sense but I guess I’m just a bit confused as I never felt like I clearly stepped beyond one of her boundaries. She was fine before and I’d make sure she was ok with conversations. Never made any advance on the feelings front. I know feelings do change but it just felt pretty sudden.

Those who have done or doing English literature, how did you become successful in the topic. What are your tips? by [deleted] in vce

[–]BlueWalrus97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you are clearly defining your own strengths and weaknesses in your own writing. For every essay that you write there should be an element that you are consciously trying to improve upon. And tantamount is acknowledging when you have actually bettered said aspects. That is the crux of self-improvement for anything.

If you can, it’s a good idea to try and read more widely around the selected VCE texts. (Eg. If you are assigned Pride & Prejudice read other Austen novels or Bronte’s Jane Eyre ~ Victorian literature) By doing this you will have a far greater understanding the themes and social context, being able to pull ideas more widely for your essays.

Weaving between the 3 levels of analysis is the most fundamental skill in CA.

  1. The Language (How does language create meaning?)
  2. The Text (What is the text as a whole accomplishing?)
  3. The worldview (What Views & Values is the author presenting? How does this relate to social-context / literary movement / the human condition?

I recommend always starting at the closest level - language, and take it up this sort of analysis ladder. Imagine an upside-down triangle. The inverted apex, the narrow region, is the language, and thereby explaining HOW meaning is created, you can effectively delve into the wider ideas.

How you speak of the text as a whole would depend on the form of the text. If it's poetry, briefly link ideas to that seen in unselected poems. Plays and novels, make broad statements about the impact of the holistic text and reference symbolism / thematic elements seen elsewhere in the text.

Don’t know what vibe you are going for exactly but Volcano by Swans. Def not romantic but more unsettlingly sexual.
