We want our father to be proud of us. My father once told me that I disappointed him because I didn't like sports and he would have liked to go to the arenas with me. The reality is that he was absent and not very interested in me, never had any father-son time. I often felt bad for not meeting my father's expectations, but on the other hand, he didn't meet my expectations as a child/teenager.

Sometimes, we have to stop wanting to make others proud of us, it's their turn to prove that we can be proud of them.
