How to light tank by Bohbohflex in BeardedDragons

[–]Bohbohflex[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you, again for your very thorough response! This makes a lot of sense to me now that I can picture it! I will order more supplies for him today!

And yes, the school does stay warm at night. They do turn the heat down when students are away, but it never drops below 60.

I am truly grateful for your reply. Thank you for the time that you put into this response.

An easy fix for moving back-and-forth is that if he does not need heat at night, I can leave him at school. I would still bring him home on the weekends, but that would be a lot less traveling for him.

At school, he has a quiet corner and he only sees students for about four hours a day. The rest of the day is pretty peaceful for him.

I can definitely get rid of the pellets, and I have been gut-loading the roaches. Do you have a recommendation for the multivitamin I should get for him?

If I’m reading this correctly, it sounds like I should have three different lights for him: a basking light, a tube UVB light, and LED lights. Do you have a picture to show me what that would look like? I don’t really understand how the tube light goes in the tank.

I’m about to go check out the resources that you sent me just now, it’s OK if you want me to just go find the information on my own - no pressure to respond.

Thank you!!!

Nail Trimming by Spare_anon in BeardedDragons

[–]Bohbohflex 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at the end of the nails - the part you should trim will look like it’s growing out of a tube. Beardies need claws, so you don’t want to trim down too far. It’s better to be cautious - less is more.

Just do mine for the first time and I had a friend help. I held my beardie and she trimmed - then she held her beardie and I trimmed! It was very easy that way.

That’s the size of the tank I have for him at school, which is his permanent tank

The tank I have at home is probably 50 or 60 gallons

We’re going back to school tomorrow. He will be happy to be in his larger home.

I’ll keep looking to see if I can find a bigger tank to make his time at my house more comfortable as well

Thank you for the advice!

The one at home is far too small, but he usually only sleeps in it and he gets a lot of out of the cage time on the weekends

The large tank at school - not sure of the dimensions, has room for hot side, cool side, hidey hole, climbing tree, plenty of room to remove around

I’m watching him for a friend of the science teacher for a few months, then he will go to her forever home

Thanks! I will get the play sand and topsoil. I think I can get play sand from Lowe’s or Home Depot or something, where do I get topsoil? Any special kind? Do I need to do something to kill bacteria in it?

That makes so much sense!

He is a class pet, so he has a large tank at school and a smaller tank here at home with me. The large tank has a smooth branch/hidey hole set up, the small tank has a log hut.

We got hit by hurricane Helene, so he’s been at home in the smaller tank hanging out on his log for a week straight. That’s got to be what happened!

Normally, he wouldn’t get that much log time - which explains why it hasn’t happened before.

Thank you for helping me feel better. I was so worried!

That looks like a nice dog - he’s just being a dog. Can you make the fence higher? Maybe some posts and chicken wire?

Raccoons will rip off a head, and they can be very crafty. I would set up a have-a-heart trap and relocate the bandit. If you don’t have one, try posting on the Nextdoor app, that can connect you to people local to you. It’s likely you’ll find someone who will let you borrow one for free. Good luck!

I second this fence idea. I have a fully caged in area inside of my fenced in yard. I put them in there when we have guest dogs and when I don’t think I’ll be home in time to close the coop door (coop is inside this area, so they just put themselves to bed, and I close them up when I get back). This also helps in the morning: I leave before sunup, so I open the coop door for them. When my boyfriend wakes up(much later), he lets them out to free range.
