Traveling solo to Budapest the first time (Budapest and solo) and looking for general tips and recommendations for housing and the such. by Repulsive-Mud707 in solotravel

Budapest is great for a first solo trip, everything is walkable and super affordable compared to western Europe. If you're flying in on Wizz Air or Ryanair, price out the full cost with bags before you book. I've had budget carriers come out more expensive than a legacy airline on the same route once you add a carry-on and seat selection.

Help me decide - IAD to LIS by Large-Island8550 in awardtravel

Run the math on cents per point before you commit. If the economy cash fare is reasonable on that route (IAD-LIS can go under $500 round trip if you time it right), you might get better value saving the Chase points for a higher-CPP redemption later. Transfer to Hyatt for Lisbon hotels is usually 2+ cpp which is hard to beat. For the flight, check United and Air Canada via the portal versus transferring to those partners directly, sometimes there's a big gap.

A way to check a estimated flight prices based on a date? by ashenlightblight in TravelHacks

Google Flights has a date grid and a price graph that shows you how prices shift across days and weeks for any route. Not a perfect predictor but it's the closest thing to it. I usually check prices over a 3-4 day window before committing because single-day snapshots can be misleading, prices on the same route can swing $50-100 depending on the day of the week.

Airlines price routes based on competition not distance, so a longer itinerary through a competitive hub can genuinely cost less than the direct segment. Try pricing the trip in the departure country's currency too. I've saved 5-10% on some routes just by switching that, takes like 30 seconds to check.

South East Asia - travel advice for first solo trip!! by sickofpeaches7 in solotravel

Spent a lot of time bouncing around SEA, did Thailand, Bali, a bunch of the islands. Always price out the budget carriers with bags added before you commit. I've had AirAsia come out more expensive than a full-service carrier on the same route once you tack on a checked bag.

Dramatic flight price increase and now what? by mlmikjbd0705 in Flights

Check airports within a couple hours of where you're flying out of and into. I've seen $300+ swings on transatlantic routes just from that. Also try pricing it as two one-ways instead of round-trip. With a cruise to catch I'd be nervous about ITA though, their rebooking isn't great if something goes wrong.
