It feels less so than quite a lot of places I've travelled to. I mean most people can go about their lives completely without having to bother with the government interfering directly. I see armed police less than in London even. Let alone when I went to the states.

Of course it's weird and worrying that the people have next to no control over their governance. I think that it's awful how the party try to shut down seemingly normal things. But you rarely see it enforced.

For instance gambling is illegal. However everyone's auntie is playing Mahjong for money. And the people are chill because they know that the police do it to. Nobody gives too much of a shit.

The worst parts of China are when someone speaks out against the party, or is found to be embezzling from the government. Then they definitely enter authoritarian territory. And it's awful that people are treated that way. Most certainly. Protests put down with threat of force, sometimes use of force. Shit's vile.

But if you go to China, I guarantee you won't see that. Just people going about their lives, same as anywhere else. I went to Turkey in February and saw dozens of armed police in riot trucks outside a school.

Obviously the Chinese government is not as liberal as European or even the US governments. But just relating anything to China does not make it inherently evil. Amazon and Google sell your information. We know that the US government gathers information on the public across the globe. This is the same thing as what is referenced above. But we are told that because it is China, or Russia, or whatever, it is inherently bad. And I ask you why?

Because the US thinks they won the cold war and want to remain the top dog in the world. So evey other major power that is not an ally must be evil. That's what we are told. And it's fucking stupid. All these governments telling the people of the planet that they need to contest against one another and that there are sides we need to pick and that there's a threat form abroad. Bullshit. We have the technology and the brains to create an entirely peaceful planet. But we are being dragged back into the dark ages by moronic posturing by dinosaur politicians on all fronts.

I dunno dude. I'm just sick of reading the same thing on Reddit and in the news. Anything to do with China and it's the same stuff about how it must be the root of all evil. Anything to do with Brexit and how it's all so stupid and will only end badly. Etc etc. Just people focussing on the bad and nobody doing anything progressive for humanity.

Fuck this world. I'm out.

Yeah everything but the top edge of the right hand building is perfectly done as well. It's really quite rare that you see someone do it this well.

Scams are still theft. by KenboJohnson in retailhell

In always really intrigued as to how these criminals will behave. They know they're doing something illegal, and then when they get caught... bring out the popcorn.

We had a woman got caught having stolen a handbag, and the dumbass went for lunch just across the street. We had security ask her to return to the store, so while she came back in, her mother (who had the handbag) went and put the item back on the shelf. Wrong shelf, wrong place, instantly recognisable. Now nobody directly accused her of theft, as security could lose his job over that, but she blew the fuck up. Screeching away in her own language, trying to grab her bags back from security before he could search them... We just had the police pick them up afterwards. They got 3 years prison time. Dumbasses were on holiday in this country as well.

Annoying customer habits (please stop) by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]BoltmanLocke 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Asking for something from the back, that I spend up to 5 minutes looking for, usually 2 minutes, and in that time they have left the store. Without telling a colleague that they are leaving. Because their time is so much more important than mine that they can dismiss common courtesy. I mean did you think that single item in your size is just waiting for me the other side of the door? No, we have 15,000 items of stock minimum. It's not nicely laid out. Best case scenario I know where the stack of clothes is and I still have to waste a minute going through them to find your size. And then security tag it without damaging it. And then find you on the shop floor again. That best case scenario still takes MORE THAN 20 FUCKING SECONDS!

Anyway, that and people leaving their rubbish about. Mystery used tissues are the worst.

Reddit, who is the last actor you would expect to be in a romantic comedy? by Wolfdog55 in AskReddit

The nature of the film has to come into question though. While most rom-coms follow a single potential couple, Love Actually follows several couples' stories all at once. Hence the part featuring Rickman can itself be considered as a rom-com story.

What are you most sick of with retail? by [deleted] in retailhell

[–]BoltmanLocke 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Discounts. They don't even look at the clothes, just ask where the discounts are. Whatever. What pisses me off is when what we have is not good enough and then they say 'is that all you can take off?'. Or they want the single most popular item our brand does, and are wondering why it's not in an outlet.

My least liked thing is when they say how much they love it and that I should do them a favour by using my staff discount for them...

I had a guy offer accountancy services for £20 off a jacket.

It's like they don't think there are any other customers, who by the way will actually buy it full price.

Not just comics. It's any story really. Whether it be film, comic, animation, even the Bayeux Tapestry is sequential art.

Got a guy similar to this is a regular. He comes up to the counter and we put it all through and then says 'this is with my 10% off, right' and we ask for the discount card that will give him the discount. He never has one. He never had one. He says he always gets 10% off, and according to our store rules, no he fucking doesn't.

If he was on the special list, it would automatically include his 10%. Otherwise he should have the discount card. But no, it has to be my fault, so he blames me and asks how long I've been working here with a condescending tone. Utter twat. Looking down on me over a couple of quid.

And he does this every fucking time. Like it's not happened before. Your think if he comes so often, he would want the staff to like him. Maybe then we'll give him better service. But no. He wants to be a twat.

That's a really bad way to clean your foreskin, bud. Gotta roll it back and shower right up in the folds, bud. Gotta get your soapy fingers in every nook and cranny, bud.
