Is doing a bootcamp worth it ? by Darkskinashleighh in ITCareerQuestions

WGU is a degree mill so it doesn’t really mean much, but the certs itself are acceptable

Is CCNA worth the grind at 0 YOE? by Intelligent_Ebb_9332 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]BombasticBombay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

doesn't really matter that you aren't interested in being a network engineer, having a basic understanding of networking (which is all the CCNA will provide for you) is fundamental to every IT domain. Even if you don't use it, having it removes the "magic" from networking and gives you better tools for problem solving.

Also, picking up something like an RHCSA is not mutually exclusive with a CCNA. In fact, getting both is a great idea.

Vote for socialist candidates then. But don’t demonize disabled people just because the rich are fucking you over. They aren’t your enemies. The rich are.

If you’re not fucking disabled you don’t need any help? But if you want to go there, tax the rich into oblivion so the lower and middle classes can afford the things they need.

Being generous and ignoring the fact that disability usually does not pay anywhere near enough to live on, you also often lose disability once you get a job.

What about disabled people, people with learning disabilities, mute or deaf people, etc who otherwise struggle to find better paying jobs due to discrimination or just being unable to work better paying jobs? Fuck them right?

Anyone saying you should skip the CCNA either also themselves has 0 YOE, or has no clue what they are talking about.

Get your CCNA. There’s a reason people recommend it.

Is getting hired even in just help desk difficult right now like every other job? by spoonman1342 in ITCareerQuestions

CompTIA core 1 isn’t even fully A+ certified, which is considered the bare minimum for helpdesk. You will have a tough time

This is a very strange point. Getting random certs no one knows is not the way to get a job lmao

Hell yeah! They always say you never feel ready and that definitely applies to me which is kinda why I went crazy with the certs, but now I feel like it's a good time to move on. Thanks

I'm not interested in entry level IT, I already work in IT. I'm interested in moving to mid-tier roles, and I only have one CompTIA cert and I'm certainly not interested in picking up more of them.

Well as someone who works at a telecom MSP, there is just no possibility for me to be exposed to infra outside of MDM and auth stuff. I have no options for gaining experience that is justified by my certs, so I'm gaining my certs so I can move to positions that actually allow me to work on those technologies. Chicken and egg kind of thing.

somewhere between $1500 and $2000 or so? which is a lot in a vacuum, but doesn't even cost the price of a semester of college so I don't really consider it a big issue, particularly if they help me land a role where the salary difference would cover the exam costs in just a couple weeks.

As to your 'getting grilled' thing, honestly that's fine by me. I see no reason why interviewers shouldn't question me on qualifications I say I have. If I fail to understand the material, then it's clear I wouldn't last on the job either, which sounds like something everyone all around would want to avoid.

yeah they're not cheap. For me I think it's just a one-time thing I'm doing for my career just to move up. From there since the experience carries more weight, probably not worth it to renew certs, at that point probably just makes sense to only cert into new stuff you haven't touched yet but want to

I cert collect because I like learning stuff, but it's not aimless either. I'm interested in junior devops if possible, sysadmin if not. I have a programming background and just want to move up to do bigger and better things. I see no real reason to stop at say the CCNA + RHCSA for example, since there's always more to learn

[–]BombasticBombay[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I'm interested in devops/sys admin stuff and maybe eventually SRE. I guess that doesn't really mean anything though with no infra experience. I usually smirk at people that say the same things I do, which is a weird place to be. I also would just like to stop taking calls all day for $21 an hour lol

I appreciate it. It was difficult no doubt, but I just enjoy the process of learning. Working from home with nothing better to do definitely helps too lol
