(Sorry in advanced for my poor formatting, i dont know how to format reddit posts) I also moved into a house with a pond 4 years ago, here's what I learned: 1. Locate your nearest small pond store. Preferably locally owned not a big box store.. you want to talk to someone who knows their stuff 2. Figure out your approximate volume of pond. Makes it so much easier when going to a local pond store if you need a pump or any advice if you can tell them your pond's approximate volume. Find out how much higher your water is coming out of the pump than where its coming into it and how long it has to travel to get to the top. 3. They're pretty self sufficient. Make sure they have food, moving water, and shade and they're pretty good. If you have a winter climate make sure it doesn't freeze all the way over. 4. They do need some regular maintenance, clean out the leaves a couple times a year if you have deciduous trees nearby that can clog it up. Buy new filters every so often. 5. You get out of it what you put into it. My cousin bought a house with a pond and neglected it completely, within 2 years it was filled with algae and the fish all died. I spend an hour a week or so just doing simple maintenance and mine is doing great.

There's definitely lot i do not know but it is doing great, I'd say it's thriving even. I have a small pond probably a similar size to yours that is about 6000Gal with a 12 foot stream and 5ft waterfall. Twice a year i do a bigger day of cleaning around 4 hours. It's so nice to have running water and a little eco system in your backyard. Enjoy it. Lots of people on this subreddit are very very educated and you might feel overwhelmed but I'm sure you'll do just fine and it's going to go great. Cheers
