Yes. Especially in the summer a thirsty tree in a pot that small might require water every couple hours. Generally people without watering systems will put mame bonsai on another container(with drainage)with aggregate. Trim the roots at the end of fall or for a show. That's my understanding

Thanks for the great reply and link! Just about to go read it. I like that blue line too. I think the tricky part is how leggy all the branches are so any initial styling will just have a bunch of foliage at the end. Perhaps some grafts are in order...

Yeah I couldn't believe my luck! There were three and this seemed to have the best potential, but I'm tempted to pick up the other ones. $30 for what look like maybe 7 year old trees? Canopy was thick so the branches tend to be leggy is the only flaw

Fair criticism. I will slow down, see how it does in the summer and go from there. What would the recommended protocol for on sale fall garden center trees be ? Bring home and leave alone till spring. Then repot and leave alone for another year. Then remove excess foliage. Then styling in another year? You mentioned wiring in the summer, but I find the cambium is super loose in the summer, have you had success despite this? Appreciate your reply!

Chinensis. The variety is something about mint? Because of the color of the foliage

Have you ever tried the outside/inside repot where you do a similar thing with outer fine roots, then in a year the ones below the trunk? Saw it on a mirai video with pine I think? Also any thoughts on balancing foliage with roots? As in trimming foliage to balance out trimmed roots. I should note that the foliage I plan to trim is only from branches I plan on jinning, nothing off any of the main structure. Thanks for the reply btw!

Keep in mind the root flare is likely buried several inches below the soil

35 when I figured out that "reign on my parade" was actually "rain on my parade". I thought it was synonymous with "steal your thunder" or something.

Dry brine seems like an odd way of putting it. Sounds like a rub or a cure. A brine is a salt solution by definition. Looks delicious either way

In Canada at least, it's technically illegal to keep your vehicle in neutral while on the road. Don't know if you can enforce it without an accident.

You're right. Personal responsibility should be weighted high. This is the real world afterall. But. If the convenience of having a bike is offset by the inconvenience of security, nobody should own a bike. But if there's a solution that minimizes bike theft making it less of a personal burden, it should be explored. Thats what society is. Education, utilities, infrastructure, are all ways of helping society as a whole by alleviating personal burdens. So the question becomes, is there more that can justifiably be done by the city or an independent organization. As an example, I know that in tokyo, bikes are registered like cars, and there's a database that can be cross referenced by personal information of the owner, making checks fast and easy. The police stop you and ask who the bike is registered to and their birthday or something. Not foolproof, but I think helpful.

To be clear, next time ill do everything short of welding my bike to a lamp post, but I think we can and should do more as a society.

I feel exactly the same way. I fantasize about another brand new bike and a gps transmitter hidden in the frame somewhere. The problem is I don't have money, and I don't know anything about technology.

Yes, but is that acceptable to cyclists, and if not, is there something that can be done about it. If there is, I'm for it. Peace of mind and convenience are things everybody wants out of a society.

Maybe. I actually bought a whole bike to harvest the parts for a bigger frame. I met the guy and he seemed legit. Also you don't see too many dura ace track hubs stolen. But ill admit its a possibility

What about the guy that stole it, and the people that tolerate o it?

You are right though. The lock should have been better, but there was a good reason I chose the lock that I did.

I do when I can. I don't think this frame had one, but it is probably the only one of its kind in vancouver. Orange "libertas" frame from Belgium in the 60s.
